Hey guys,

Got the red triangle suspension lean fault yday and then today found the fluid under the passenger door area. Cars been stood for a few days in near 30c heat - just checking if there is access to a not a connection that could need nipping up, not sure if the heat has made something expand and now needs possibly nipping up. I ran my diagnostic and got the C1119 hydraulic pressure fault , due to the leaking fluid.

Any help as always will be much appreciated.

It seems to be about 6 inches back from the passenger front wheel where the leak is.
I’ve taken off the underside plastic pop rivets but presume there’s the harder plastic cover to take off as well that’s on the nuts and that reveals the pipe?

If you take the 10mm bolts out the inside edge of the panel and pull it down, you should see where it's coming from

Make sure you have a rag to hand so you don't get dripped on

EDIT: I've assumed it's coming from under the cover. The NS pipe does corroded and leak, then run down the pipework to behind the wheel area...

Yes it’s dripping through one of the plastic pop rivets on the plastic sill about 6 inches back from the wheel arch.
Ah thanks so 2 bolts on the inside wheel arch , after taking the plastic sill cover off and look down - I’ll check the pipes and if I can see the source.

Just checking, is the valve block/pump on the passenger side about 6 inches back where all the pipes feed into??

Yes, that's about where the valve block is. Look for wet and rusty pipes

Are the pipes more likely to corrode going into the block so you need to check the seals from the pipe going to the block? Or replacement seals etc

Thankfully, the L494 valve blocks do not suffer from corrosion in the same way the L320 does

Usually, you get away with just replacing the pipes. If the seals do come out when you remove the pipes, they can be replaced easily

Got to the pipe and pretty conclusive!



Found a replacement pipe guy on eBay - has made replacement pipes for each of the 4 pipes using new hydraulic pipe , his done a tutorial how to replace each pipe also. £160 with delivery for replacement pipe and fittings (incl new block seals etc)

Will let you know how I get on when it arrives and I fit it.

What condition are the rest of the pipes in? Usually replacing a single section is false economy...

The other pipes were pretty clean and not corroded like the leaking one, after I cleaned them up.

I was thinking when I replace the pipe to spray them in a metal fence paint , give them some extra protection , hammerite or something similar.

You can see it’s a very bad design fault as the pipes should be in a dry free almost air tight box - the amount of grit and gravel collected in my sill was awful, no wonder the pipes easily rot.

I'm just glad that I live in an environment where it doesn't rain very much and corrosion is not a problem. After 15 years, I don't have a spot of corrosion on anything, even the bolts underneath are rust free.
I get the feeling that Landrovers are not designed for wet climates, only for warm climates where it doesn't rain very much.

I will admit the plastics used don't like the sun very much. The external plastic trim on my Honda is like new after 20 years.

I inclined to think the major cause of corrosion with the pipes etc. is actually the salt used on UK roads during the winter months more than just a wet climate, they don't salt the roads here either so very little rust on my old L320 over and above what was there previous to shipping it here from the UK at three years old.
