Hi all, I bought the vehicle from Copart. It was showing some faults, one of which was "SOS limited functionality". My research showed the batteries in the TCU are flat. I bought the batteries from LR. My research showed several locations for the TCU module. Its not in the boot, nor is it behind the rear passenger or drivers side door. I've also had a quick look around the steering column, I removed the side panel and the lower panel by the pedals and can't see it there, I have not removed the panel at the steering column yet. I spoke to a breakers and he told me it was in the middle of the dash, but the part he had listed was metal and not the same as the module that takes the batteries, as it did not have the flap/cover you remove to replace the batteries. This is the link he sent: ebay item eBay Item No. 276906728784. This is what my research came up with: ebay item eBay Item No. 276815252126 I don't want to be buying any parts until I'm 100% sure mine is missing or in a completely different location. Can anyone help please? |

First link is the bluetooth module, second link is correct, on 2014-2016 builds it is directly below the steering wheel mounted on the horizontal dash support bar - you'll need to remove the dash centre section below the steering wheel to get access to it (centre console right hand side trim needs to also be removed as the centre section pegs into this).

Eyup, the module was by the steering column. I've replaced the batteries, and it's still showing the fault. I have noted the codes and will be researching them. I'll keep you posted. |

I tried to using icarsoft max. I couldn't find how to tell it I installed a new battery. I cleared the code but it came back. I'm going to research the 4 code faults it gave me. I'm new to all this, esp electronics.

The telematics control unit fault code B1a01-14 indicates a problem with the TCU's internal battery circuit. Specifically, it suggests an open circuit, high resistance, or a failure of the internal battery itself. Fault code B117a-14 in a Telematics Control Unit (TCU) typically indicates a problem with the vehicle's communication and connectivity system, specifically related to the TCU itself or its communication with other modules. This could be due to a faulty TCU, a problem with the wiring harness, or issues with the Ethernet circuit within the TCU. The fault code B116E-15 in a Telematics Control Unit (TCU) typically indicates a problem with the high-speed CAN bus (powertrain) circuit, specifically a short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, or high resistance. The telematics control unit fault code B116D-15 indicates a problem with the internal battery circuit or the backup battery within the telematics control unit (TCU). These are the 4 codes and Googles answer, could the unit itself be faulty, I know I'm inexperienced but that would be my guess. The nuts were very loose when I 1st got to them. TIA Scott |

Saw you posted on an old thread of mine over on ffrr.com, I've got an L405 too and use 4RRS over there.

It was listed as Cat N. It had no body damage, just a snapped control arm. Its a bit scruffy but will clean up nice. I'm documenting the work I do and get done. I've done air, pollen and fuel filter, full set of drilled/grooved discs and pads and the main and aux batteries and an ign module and new key and fob. Once this TCU is done, I'm doing the oil cooler, and while I'm there I'll replace that O ring that leaks coolant between the V. A stud snapped front left hub so that needs doing, Fresh oil/filter, coolant and brake fluid, serpentine belt and tensioners, mot, drive it for a few months to see and iron out any issues, then detail it, sort out the minor scuffs, get the wheels refurbed and sell it. Hopefully I'll make a worthwhile profit. |

Hi mate, so I figured out telling the car I changed the battery successfully, it then went on to do some checks and it came up with application unsuccessful for the checks. it's still showing the fault SOS Limited Functionality. I tried to access the body control unit where I think it stores the fault codes, but Icarsoft wasn't supported so could not access the module. I had a key done today as well, he couldn't program the LR key so sold me one of his and deleted the key I don't have. Now I have to take the LR key and module back to Hatfields for a refund. He plugged in his diagnostics and cleared 52 faults, but the SOS remained. The dash is also showing what looks like an airbag fault, apparently there is a wire under the drivers seat that causes the light and is an easy fix. Heavy going these Land/range Rovers haha. I'm taking a multimeter tomorrow to check the voltage on the old TCU batteries. If they are good, it would explain the loose nuts. I'll keep you updated. |
