Gesture Tailgate

Picked up my MY20 Autobiography last week with Gesture Tailgate.

Is there a knack to getting this to consistently work? I've got it to work twice (so i know its fitted!)

Look like an idiot to the neighbours probably for the amount of trying.

Key always in pocket btw, only time its worked (maybe coincidentally) was when the engine was running.

Tried kicking, swiping, behind the wheel right round to the exhaust. Surely it cant be this difficult? L494 3.0L SDV6 Autobiography MY20 in Eiger Grey (Current)

I've only occasionally got mine to work.

I ended up just ignoring the fact I've got the feature and just opening the tailgate the old-fashioned way. 2021 P400e Autobiography

ah yes, the Landrover Hokey-Kokey! I believe they're considering it for an Olympic event.
It is possible to master I believe but it's not easy. There's a very specific movement in a very specific location.
For some reason I seem to have more luck with mine on the OS than the NS but I have had both work on occasion.
If it's any consolation, the Bentley one is equally difficult I understand.
This is what LR think you need to do though standing there for 20 minutes staring at your rear wing is hopefully optional Laughing

I've spent quite a while making a fool of myself in the driveway, waving my foot under the rear skirt.

I'm just thankful that jetwashing the rear of the car doesn't have any more luck than I do (Would be really annoying to wash the back of the car and the tailgate rises). 2021 P400e Autobiography

So the gesture opening is as reliable as the remote opening on my old RRS? That regularly releases but doesn't open until a couple of button presses later. I'd happily go back to the old manual split rear gate from the original L320 RRS. That was actually a helpful feature. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Update to this; follow the video 41jules1967 posted to the tee and it will work every time.

Its not ideal to have to stand in an exact position and kick in an exact way, I suppose it needs to be a bit strict to avoid accidental opening and closing when around the back or when your head is in the boot unloading.

Reliability doesn't seem to be an issue, is in my case it was user method. L494 3.0L SDV6 Autobiography MY20 in Eiger Grey (Current)
