Messed up intake manifold replacement job

Hi

I/we managed to mess up replacing a cracked inlet manifold on an LR320 range rover sport. Got the manifold off ok, replaced it with a new one but the OBD is indicating the EGR valve is stuck open which is causing rough running at low revs & also goes into restricted performance mode which was the very reason I replaced the original cracked manifold.

The job itself was quite tricky due to the lack of room in there.

It was the drivers side manifold (UK) which we replaced, at some point we loosened what may have been the EGR valve assembly to remove other components but didn't take it off completely.

There was also some smoke coming from down below on that side of the engine which wasn't there before the manifold replacement.

Does anyone have any advice about what might be causing the EGR to be stuck open? or the smoke?

Last time I tried the engine it didn't start - which was surprising because I would have thought a stuck open EGR valve would only be an issue once the engine has produced exhaust gases to be recirculated into the intake aka rough running at low revs not cold starting issues.

Any assistance would be much appreciated even if it is just a link to what the EGR looks like on these engines....

Its a 3.0 litre 2012 V6 model

Smoke coming from down that side of the engine is quite normal after that job as there will be oil that drips down onto the manifold/turbo when you take the cover off. It should clear after a few miles.

Did you snap the plastic EGR actuator rod on top of the EGR valve? I recently had problems with an XF V6 Diesel running badly after I'd replaced the valve cover and it turned out to be the throttle body with the butterfly valve in it that sits on top of the engine.

Hi thanks for your reply, I think the actuator is ok, the plastic thing is intact and the actuator moves backwards and forwards. The rest of the EGR valve I am not sure about where it bolts onto the side of the engine...
