Hi all. Tried a search but to no avail.

Tried to remove the under trays today on my 2013 L320 to change the turbo drain pipe to the shorter one.

And that's as far as we got... Tried...

Not one bolt under there would budge, even with a breaker bar. Seems to me that the bolts have not been off for 10 years...

Any secrets out there to get them off, feels like they will either round over or snap, either way I think every one is going to have to be drilled out.

someone must have had them off to change the oil ....or not

Tried heat...

Oil comes out the top with a vacuum pump for oil change,

Have you tried soaking them in penetrating oil for a couple of day's, then use a good six sided socket and impact wrench. Buy a tin of copper slip as well when they go back.

For what it’s worth it ultimately worked out quicker for me to grind off , drill out and retap.

I was there for days trying to get the little front piece off - funny now but not then🤬

I replaced all mine with stainless bolts and copper ease to boot.

Hope you get em shifted there a real PIA for what should be a simple job

Thread revival and update.

Decided to try and tackle this job again. Over the past 3 weekends I have been soaking the 10 bolts with penetrating oil.

Today I got under with an impact socket and 20" socket bar. 9 of the 10 cracked loose with a good dose of persuasion.

The last had been rounded completely by a previous owners attempt. so as a last challenge a took an old socket one size to small bashed it on with a hammer and went for it, to my surprise in gave in to me first time.

That's job done, going to replace all 10 with new bolts.

For damaged hex heads, as a last resort, if you have a Dremel, get some carbide tips, its fairly easy to then re-cut a hex, the next size down. The next size down may well be Imperial/AF.
Always use full hex sockets as well. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

Well I finally gave in on this job and put the Car into Protec 4x4 just outside Cardiff

turns out the starter motor bolts were seized solid too, would never have got the job done lying on my back on the drive....

Job done car back, issues resolved, 10/10 for Prtotec 4x4 customer service to, highly recommended.
