United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Orkney Grey
440e Cabin Preconditioning

Hi.

Has anyone had an explanation of the Cabin Preconditioning option (currently costing £1275). We currently have the previous P400e model which allows you to set the climate remotely using the Land Rover app.

Dealer said you could still do this on the new model, so what do you get is you take the optional extra?

Would appreciate any insights!

If only there was a brochure.

Thanks

It allows you to set timers so you don’t need to open the app and press the button. That’s what my understanding is

Sounds like nothing new that's not on the P400e, probably paying for what used to be included? Rolling with laughter 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

Not sure about the p400e but all previous JLR’s I’ve not been able to set the time it comes in as I’ve never paid the extra, just open the app and start it.

I have this option, you get an extra remote which has about a 400m range, it start the FBH an warms the car up, it work independently to having the app connected, I think it’s for areas or countries which have no cell signal, also you do not need a subscription for it to work.

I have not ordered this on my new car as the app pre heat works for me Tesla Model Y - 2023

On the new model, I can see an option on the app to set departure time and 'precondition' including 30 mins climate. So I assume you can schedule it without the added option, which I did not tick. Not that I have tried it to be honest, but it is definitely there in the app.

I would add a picture but it is a pain to upload online, does this forum allow Tapatalk?

Before the app if you chose the pre heat option at a cost you got an extra keyfob to start the heating through a fuel burner not by starting the car which the app does.

As R22Flyer has said Smile

You have a FBH on a P400e petrol car?
Must admit I did not see that option when buying mine.

The app has always works when I need it and if no mobile signal the I guess I could use the menu in the car before leaving it.

EDIT: Just found the old brochure, it was option 022LB for £1.080. Still would like to know what it starts, FBH or engine? 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

I had the pre-conditioning option on my RRS2 V8 diesel, have it on my Cayenne, and have specced it for my 510e (which i do not know whether i will ever actually get!). I love it - just press the fob from the bedroom when I get up, then 45 mins later step into a warm demisted/ defrosted car. It does not start the engine. You can also start it from the app (on the Porsche), so can pre-warm the vehicle in say the train station car park before you arrive.

I can’t comment on whether the ‘standard’ spec warms differently - e.g. by actually starting the engine - but I would be interested to know.

It’s a must have option for me! Much cheaper than buying and eating lots of cake to insulate myself with! Current: Cayenne GTS (got fed up with waiting for LR to build my third RRS)
On order: RRS3 510e AB
Gone: RRS SDV8 AB, RRS SDV6, Vauxhall Nova 1.0, Nova 1.3 SR, Nova 1.4 SRi, Renault Laguna (why?), BMW 318is coupe (fabulous - despite having to buy a radio and tape player for it from Halfords), 323i saloon, 325ti compact (superb), 320td compact (awful), VW Golf 2.0d 4Motion (all the car you really need), BMW 120d compact (excellent), 118d compact (slow), 335d coupe (rapid)

Yes defo has a FBH on the petrol for this option, I believe the Hybrid also uses electric heating to warm the batteries and the cabin, so not sure why this car was speced with it,

I know the older Diesels have the FBH as standard to aid the engine in heating up in the cold weather to keep the emissions down. So addint the remote function is cheaper than the petrol

Thanks for posting that, agree not sure it is necessary to spec it.

The app using battery or engine is fine for me. Thumbs Up 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

Will the cabin pre-conditioning not be electric heating powered by the mains, so you are not using battery to heat car from cold, or having to start the engine? No way it'll be a fuel burning heater on a plug-in hybrid.

Yes it a FBH on a plugin Hybrid, look at the pictures, I believe it to heat via mains if plugged in (I do this at work everyday) then if the temo is below 10C it uses the FBH to aid heating, it does not start the engine, in the connected app I have the choice of electric or engine heating.

The FBH works independent of the App, so if you have no signal or off the cellular grid or pay for the connected services you can use the remote to pre heat the car without starting the application. Tesla Model Y - 2023

Looks like you're quite right, I didn't look at the pictures. Guess it means you have the best of all worlds, to pre-heat in any situation.
