Weird Electronic parking brake fault

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and I am a happy fresh new owner of a 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8.

Everything is working fine but there is a strange fault that I haven’t seen anywhere when looking to all the posts on the subject…

Let me explain, when I am parked and I try to engage the parking brake a yellow light appears and the red parking break logo flashes with a message saying that the parking brake is not working.

So if I get the shifter in neutral when not on a flat surface the car is moving. But for example when I go for a ride everything disappear and if I push the parking break switch while driving the car brakes until it completely stops just like an emergency brake.. I’m confused as the parking brake works while driving but not when I am parking the car..

If anyone could help me I would be grateful !

wELL YOU NEED TO READ THE FAULT CODES.

I would recommend an Autel AP200 white
code reader which can be used with a smart phone

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your reply, I did the scan with elm327 with « EOBD-FACILE » as I’m French but nothing appears..
Are you sure the software you’re telling me is working well on the Range Rover Sport and where to download it and which OBD tool do I need is the ELM327 Wifi okay ?

I think the ELM only gives engine codes from memory

If you didn’t get anything but engine codes, then I think I’m correct

You can buy the diagnostic tool in France : autel ap200 white

Hi Andy,

I hope you are well, I have ordered the Autel ap200 and I should receive it by Friday.

I have watched a video on YouTube and I saw that the park brake switch of the guy was illuminated in green as the headlights were on. So it made me think about mine and I went into and I turned on my headlights and everything lighted in green except the park brake switch, the P logo on it stays white .. do you have an idea ? Isn’t that my park brake switch could be faulty ?

The electronic park brake (EPB) is a known fault and a cheap and easy fix - if thats the Problem.

I have replaced the EPB in my Disco3 and again, twice, in my TDV8. Whistle Previously owned 1999 Disco 2 TD5
Disco 3 HSE TDV6 2007
Gone 2007 TDV8 RRS1 in Buckingham Blue.

How do know if the knocking at the front has been sorted?

You can hear the knocking at the rear better

That code appears to indicate that the park brake module has tripped a temperature overheat for whatever reason, possibly someone has used the park brake a little excessively over a short period, maybe bedding in new shoes or something like that. Looking at fault code below you may be lucky and by clearing the code it may go away. Where it says suspect a internal fault with the ABS module, I think that may be a L/R misprint and actually mean the park brake module not the ABS.

Thanks a lot for all those precisions ! I have erased the DTC but it keeps on coming back.
The red park brake light keeps on flashing and it says on the screen “parking brake released press to apply the brake” and when I press the switch I get the yellow exclamation point and it says parking brake fault park brake inoperative

Why don't you simply service the brakes,, open them up,, clean and lubricate where necessary then adjust correctly and then see where you stand. After that if there's no improvement start looking into the brake module. You can play all day with a handheld unit but if there is a mechanical problem you need to get your spanners out and cure the fault. Dirt does not do these systems any favours. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Okay roger that ! I will try to remove everything and try cleaning the shoes and see if anything change. By the way when I’m on the road driving and lift the switch I can get emergency brake and the car brakes until it stops completely ?

To be honest, I wouldn't be making a habit of doing that,,, get it working correctly first. 2010 RRS, TDV8
