What is this dash light

Hi Guys.

What is this lamp? I cant find any info on it in the handbook.
Its on all the time. Being green I assume its not the end of the world.
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure as I don't have it on mine, but I think it's parking sensors on or off. Barrie.

Forward Alert "on", isn't it? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

That's the one. Same light confused me after I reset all the ECUs and it got turned on.. previous owner must have turned it off so I'd never seen it before Laughing

Turned it off again after it needlessly nagged me one too many times! 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

You can turn it off in the setup menu via the steering wheel if I remember right, personally I think it's another waste of time feature.

In the old days (the original RRS before they did the facelift), there was a simple button on the dashboard to turn forward alert on or off.

I don't understand this on going desire to have everything on a menu on a screen. Censored 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I'm not sure but I think we can blame Tesla for that one.. I assume it was cheaper to stick a giant iPad in the centre console than it was to have physical buttons, but people thought it looked futuristic so other manufacturers followed suit; and now you can't even change the heater settings without scrolling through eight pages of settings on a touch screen you're fishing for while driving*

*Slight exaggeration, not specific to JLR but I did see exactly that comment about the latest VWAG products. 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

I think the whole idea behind the use of screens is that it's a cheaper way of doing things - it allows you to have the same system in lots of different models in your range without having to have lots of parts, you can change designs more easily too.

Look at the new FFRR - the screen is sat on a mounting point in front of the physical dash structure. So they can change the screen size in coming refreshes without having to redesign the control systems. Or they can change the dash design in a refresh without having to redesign a whole lot of switches etc..

My own view is that the move to screens is a road safety issue - they are as distracting as a mobile phone if you have to navigate through screens to change something that could easily be done by a switch. One very quickly learns where dash switches are and can use them without looking. Not so a touch screen menu system. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Completely agree with you on everything - especially the road safety aspect. Of course, we might just be angry old men? I mean .. I did the commute yesterday (first time in nearly two years Laughing ) from Northampton to Heathrow and I lost count of the number of drivers who were texting, scrolling through instagram, watching videos on their phones plus, of course, the "phone on loudspeaker but I'm still holding it" brigade, so I assume "road safety" is just old fashioned and no longer a consideration Neutral

(Edit: I should add that I had a passenger who was the one doing the running commentary on other drivers behaviour Laughing ) 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S
