Lol I'll take it more easy Smile Still some good info here.

Hard to keep it below 2000rpm sometimes whilst you're driving in London but will keep my eye on it.

I'm guessing its not a firm 2000rpm just around that area?

Thanks

I have always used 3000rpm as my self-imposed "limit" before any engine is warmed through.

Has always worked for me, even with things like Dolly Sprints and Triumph Stags, which really do not like being revved when cold. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, was driving along in the SDV8 I’m in now.

It’s very keep to do changes in the early gears in London at between 2000-3000rpm in the earlier gears.

The rev counter on the SDV8 only goes to just over 4000rpm before the redline area starts!

Bit tricky to keep it low unless you constantly watch the Rev counter and lift off the accelerator a bit to get it to change earlier!

Anyway all SDV8s have the FBH as standard in the Uk does that help bring oil temp up quicker?

What would SDV8 owners put their RPM limit at specifically warming up?

Thanks again Smile Non JLR Vehicle

I really wouldn’t get too hung up about it, just don’t thrash it until it is warm. Joined the X5 45e club

Exactly. Don't thrash it and try not to put it under high load and low revs. That's also not great for a cold engine.

You need to have revs to warm the thing up - an idling engine takes longer to warm than a driven engine, after all.

The FBH warms the coolant. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Ah ok so if it does go to 2500-3000rpm briefly but not loaded all the time then there's no real damage being done as long as you're generally being gentle!

Also cool on the FBH front - so it heats coolant which heats engine which I guess in turn would heat oil a bit faster but not directly, got it!

Ignoring the traction reduced message (no idea where that came from), there's not a lot of RPMs to play with on the SDV8 engine !!! Non JLR Vehicle

Yeah I noticed the FBH running on those cold winter mornings we had and the car did reach temp pretty quick and the inside was toastie quikc too!

Rule of thumb dont thrash until the oil has had a chance to warm a little and hit all the components.

The way I see it is if someone woke me up by throwing me out the window and foring me to do a 100 metre sprint, somehting is gonna break at some point may just be my will but its still a break!

Turbos need some warm up and warm down time even with intercoolers, in fact I bet there is something in the user manual on it. My Amg merc had a hole list of things I shouldnt do until the engine was at temp or risk a huge bill!

Chances are with modern synthetic oils its not really a problem as much as it used to be but if you look at the oil they use in your engine and have a look what it say its performance values are I think they give you an idea of temps they start to work from.

If its a rental ofcourse non of this matters! Rolling with laughter If a jobs worth doing, get a someone who knows what they are doing to do it!
