ace pump

so incase my rear ace pipes decide to give way just at the wrong time, can I still drive the car without killing the pump/bars? is there a way to get home driving the car with the system disabled and not destroyed?

Presumably you mean the ARB pipes? If the pipes fail and dump the oil from the system then you'll potentially damage the pump. This is engine driven so can't really be disabled at the side of the road.

You could, assuming you find the failure before the oil is dumped out, crimp off the relevant pipe to prevent further oil loss. This would protect the pump. The ARB itself shouldn't suffer too much. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

recently the systems just been a PITA. I replaced the front pipe, two months later one of the orings for the ram connection fails dumping out all its oil. after thats fixed i found a slow leak from the valve block plug, easily fixed but am worried on going a longer journey and being stranded somewhere tbh.

Well it happened. Am up north and the ace fluid is low. Am in the middle of knowhere so can't really do much about it aside from drive 10-20 miles to the near garage to top it up. Its on red warning so I guess no way to get away with it. Hopefully the top up will last the drive home about 150 miles

Just pull over if empties again and have it towed to usual garage that works on your car.

not really got that option atm, am like 150 miles away from that garage Razz if i make to a garage maybe they can fit the non-ace auxiliery belt but we'll see. i think its a slow leak anyways so hopefully a simple top up will do. am kicking myself cause i was thinking huh should i bring spare fluid and thought nahhhh

got some hydraulic CHF fluid. am told you need CHF11S thats equivalent but I couldn't find any 11S to go on top Razz made the trip home fine topping up here and there.

i got home and noticed the valve block filter screw was dripping, i took a closer look at it and the oring was slightly out so am guessing thats what the leak is for. my rear pipes arent looking too hot either so ill do them next opportunity.

if anyones wondering best way to keep the system "safe" incase of leak is that you get a non ACE belt and remove the fuse, I think i'll carry one around since belts are cheap.

but am running a 4.2 SC engine so am not sure if they made a non ace, maybe the 4.4 belt will do? anyone that knows more than me can confirm?

thanks Smile seems no ill effects from the lack of fluid to the pump yet. i did find a post that when it basically all goes to Censored the bars go in locked mode. and the fluid goes back to the reservoir, so hopefully that means the pump has enough fluid to keep it lubricated.

here is the original post from the LR DVD manual

"Failure Modes
Failures where the vehicle can still be driven safely are indicated by the air suspension/Dynamic Response warning indicator in the
instrument cluster illuminating continuously in an amber color. The amber indicator will remain illuminated until the ignition is
switched off. For all faults, the warning indicator will only illuminate again if the fault is still present.
Failures which require the driver to stop the vehicle immediately are indicated by the air suspension/Dynamic Response warning
indicator flashing in a red color and an audible warning. This will also be accompanied by an applicable message displayed in the
message centre.
All faults are recorded by the control module and can be retrieved using a Land Rover approved diagnostic system. The diagnostic
system provides a description of the fault, possible causes and corrective action to rectify the fault. The control module can fail to
one of two states; 'locked bars' or 'reduced operation'.
The 'locked bars' condition means that pump flow is directed through the valve block and returns to the reservoir. Both DCV's
close, trapping the fluid in the actuators. The fluid can flow from one actuator to the other via the valve block. The stabilizer bars
will perform similar to a conventional stabilizer bar, resisting roll but still allowing suspension articulation.
The 'reduced operation' condition means that the system can still operate, but one of the input signals is not being received and
so the system performance is not optimum.
If the steering angle sensor develops a fault or is out of calibration, there is a possibility that the dynamic response control
module will record a fault code. A Land Rover approved diagnostic system should be used to check for fault codes and the
adaptive data should be cleared by resetting the fault codes in the control module after the steering angle sensor has been
recalibrated.

I mean thankfully its sorted now and I seem to of gotten away with it. but I think I'll defo be carrying a spare non SC belt just in case.

I'd welcome any other views on whether the vehicle can br driven with no fluid in the system due to a broken hose. The Land Rover dealer said yes but then added "for short distances" which does not give me much confidence ... parts are on backorder and at least a month away 😭

get a non sc belt and bypass the pump. cheapest option by far.
