Parked up as normal 5 days ago .Last night I tried to start it ,everything electrical was working but the engine was completely dead and it would not turn over .it goes through the system check and then says transmission fault then engine system fault and F on the dashboard ..The battery is just 12 months old but it was at half charge so I put it on overnight charge .I tried to jump start it but it wont as it is completely dead

I think I would initially start by having the battery tested, could well have a dead cell even at twelve months old, what make of battery is it?

its just a cheap battery excide excel I have just put the charger back on and the battery is back at half charge ,,the charger is charging it but after an hour it stops charging ...why wont it accept a jump start though

Are you connecting the earth lead to the battery terminal or a good earth point on the engine? as it is is suggested by L/R you use a good earth point on the engine.

I have tried both ways
It wont attempt to turn over either with jump leads or a power pack

Does anything happen when you press the stop start button?

its a key start it goes through system check and then wont go any further and turning the key does nothing

Your Avatar says you have a 2013 S/C if that is the case it would be Keyless entry with push button start not a key start.

In that case why not just swap the batteries over initially which would eliminate the battery side of things.

If it's not the battery then it's a full code read required to even start figuring it out. Could be as simple as an earth point failure, could be something much more nasty. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

There is a relay under the bonnet box marked SM
Starter motor

Could swap it for another one.

If the dash is lit up with errors then it’s prob something else.

Have you done a battery disconnect for 20 mins ?

UPDATE

The land rover mechanic came out last night and the diagnostics indicated that the ECU could not locate the engine ??? After several electrical check including all relays,fuses,battery,alternator and starter he told me it would have to go into the garage as he had never seen this issue before ...as a last resort and out of desperation I asked him if he would spanner the negative to the positive and try and re set the ecu …..5 minutes later the engine fires and all the faults have disappeared and diagnostics confirm everything is working fine .
It has been ok today and had never given any trouble before this incident so fingers crossed it was just an unexplained gremlin
