Front Parking Sensors - on the blink

2006 Sport. After driving for a period and coming to, lets say for example a brick wall in front of me (car in 'D') my front parking sensors will only pick up the problem and report with a 'bleep' if I hit the switch on the dash to activate the system? The reverse sensors are working (automatically) when in 'R' as they should. I'm hoping its simple a switch problem!?!? Andrew Kennedy

On my 2008 the sensors, front and rear, only come on automatically if I select reverse. The button on the dash is there to switch them on if you are driving forward into a parking space or to turn the sensors off if you don't need them - for example when off-road. So it sounds to me that this is how yours are and how they should be Robin

Very early ones were different
Depends on ecu fitted.

The thing to do is slow down below 10mph and see if the switch light comes on automatically

Mine done the same at one point - Interestingly when the battery went flat and I recharged it, the problem went away!
