whats this levers function

what is this white levers function, located by the starter motor, i was looking for an earth location to clean up due to a dreaded click and no start on my 4.2 v8 s/c 2007 range rover sport, which without removing the inner wheel arch, i cant locate,
any ideas as to what this lever does. cheers

Think it’s the headlamp leveling sensor.

From google.

A headlamp levelling system adjusts the height of the cut-off line to the load condition of the vehicle. This is supposed to avoid blinding oncoming traffic when the vehicle is loaded

It controls the height of the suspension.

Change the relay under the bonnet marked SM

Thanks Lads for the reply regarding the lever.. appreciated. As for my starter motor click, i swapped R6 Relay with a compatible one from the fuse box but it made no difference, i have still not located the earth point, yet i will remove the wheel tomorrow.

on a side note i turned the ignition key maybe 7 times and the starter kicked in.. ive got a fully charged new battery, checked the battery earth lead and terminals - no corrosion and good contact. so its looking like maybe a solenoid problem, which i guess equals a new starter motor. but first of all ill clean up the earth contact point and try to get at the starter motor leads.

Thanks for the Tip.

The device in your photo is the ride height sensor for that wheel. The car uses it to determine the wheel's vertical position when changing the height from access to normal to off road heights amongst other things. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The small wire requests the starter to turn.

I usually get a large flat blade screwdriver
Ensure the car is in park.
And being careful not to touch earthed metal!
Bridge between the big red and the tiny request wire.
If the starter turns it’s ok.

You will get some sparking.

And loads of sparks if you get it wrong
