England 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Update

Got my replacement ECU back from the shop and the old girls running better than ever Very Happy many thanks to Neville at Tamar Electronics for his perseverance to revive my severely damaged ECU enough to retrieve the codes and software, he’s one of those fast disappearing old school engineering shops.

It was in a hell of a state and I’m surprise it hung in there as long as it did judging by the amount of corrosion inside Shocked the brown mark on the lid is where a chip eventually blow up!

Ah the skidmark of sudden component death.. any ideas which bit died in a ball of fire there? I'd assume something like a power transistor.. 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

This little three legged Censored with a hole in it

The other one is one of the faulty components that were drawing excessive current thus preventing the pulling of information. Steve

Fantastic news Steve!

So did they repair the existing ECU or pull the data and load it into a donor one? I assume the existing one was beyond repair? Kev

Yep that one has let the magic smoke out! Looks like a MOSFET so likely a driver for something, presumably failed as a dead short.. 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

He had to not so much repair but bypass the blow components to allow him to pull the codes and then clone to a S/H unit, the circuit boards on my unit were shot so it was unrepairable.

One of the main fault codes was DC DC converter error.

Ah OK - could have been a voltage regulator then Thumbs Up Hard to tell from pictures, even harder once the magic smoke has come out!

Good find on the shop that did the work; always good to keep folks like that in your back pocket, and it'll be a shame when they're all gone (although some larger companies like BBA Reman will stick around, I'm sure) 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

I’m currently working nights but got the chance today to take her for a proper drive to check the new ECU performs all through the range with no errors. Well what can I say it’s a different car!! it’s lost all the sluggishness it had before which I thought was normal what with the weight and the reputed turbo lag of the 2.7 but she drove fantastic, really pleased with the performance and long may it continue.

So treated her to an oil service, got a HST grill coming and finally located a replacement for the missing gearbox cover underneath.
