Update....My RRS is a runner.

Went out to do the weekly shop today and she didn’t start first time, when she did start she seemed okay but a little distance down the road she went into limp mode then stopped and wouldn’t restart. Popped my code reader which I carry in the boot on and code PO62D “fuel injector driver circuit performance bank 1“ comes up.

She’s currently being recovered but the breakdown trucks hydraulics blew while we were being pulled up the ramp! 2 hours to get the winch to release so they could get it back off! They’ve gone to get another truck hopefully she’ll be back home later?

I’m thinking this may be a garage job?

Check injector wiring for chaffing.

Probably needs a new engine ecu ,
But it contains the imboliser 😞

Cheers Andy, are the ecu’s prone to failure then? more so than injectors? I’ll check the simple things first, I’ve checked the plugs and wiring behind the battery and a quick look at the injector loomed on top of the engine.

No ecu aren’t a common problem

1 injector failing shouldn’t stop it

I guess u should do the basics and check there is high pressure fuel at the pipe joints, by loosening one slightly.

You can get imboliser ecu kits off eBay if you conclude it needs it

Info i gleaned from the Internet is injector firing info to the ecu is shared between two injectors so if one goes down it effects two, I’m at work on nights at the moment so lots of time to surf, info from the Disco 3 site points to injectors or wiring loom, I’ve got a resistance figure to check the injectors so at least I have a starting point.

Update

Finally got some time off to investigate and it appears that water may have got into the engine ecu, I found a large round grommet in the bulkhead above the ecu behind the loom out.

And water damage to the ecu pins.

So I’m looking into my options locally
1 - Exchange or rebuilt ecu, upto £160 + vat and parts
2 - Buy a second hand ecu and get it cloned, around £80 cloning unknown at this point

Waiting to hear back from a couple of specialists as they may not be working at the moment.

Have you tried cleaning the contacts or are they rotted out? If rotted, do you think the ECU is toast or could a new connector work? If you open the casing and look at the connector, mouser Uk or similar probably carry a replacement circuit board connector. 2012 5.0 SC AB

No it was very light corrosion that cleaned off, I haven’t had the lid off as it seems to involve bending the edge of the lid then it looks stuck on with black mastic and if I was going to get an exchange unit it wouldn’t look good.

It’s only effected the first plug which runs the left bank which was the error code I had when she broke down.

After cleaning it up and refitting I had 11 error codes on the engine alone! But after 2 or 3 code resets we’re down to 6

PO62D injector driver bank 1 - original fault code
Plus these now
PO62E injector driver bank 2
POA09 DC/DC converter
PO670 glow plug module current low
P1335 EGR position sensor minimum stop performance
P2138 throttle pedal position switch

Going to pull it off again tomorrow and may take the lid off and have look?

I think the DC DC code means it’s fxxked Censored

Yeah probably wise to leave the lid on unless your an electronics expert

Thanks Andy, I think you may be right that’s why the other banks now got a fault plus the other errors.

I’m thinking a cloned s/hand units going to be the most cost effective option but we’ll see what it costs?

Been in touch with three local specialist, two are getting back to me if they can do it and one has given me a price for an exchange cloned unit of £425, bit much but on a 14 day return basis if it doesn’t work(£96 restock fee)

Got plenty of time to sort it out anyway and have another car to use if necessary.

Sounds like my ECU is toast and they may not be able to pull codes from to clone, They’re going ring me tomorrow, if this is the case what are my options?. One that’s been mentioned is to replace the ECU set with a coded set from a donor vehicle? what parts do I need for this as there seems to be various available?
Is the coding required just for the immobiliser? can I bypass that?

Any help appreciated
