Forgot to mention, do not press brake pedal when changing the switch as may well damage the new switch.

Yeah. Like don't be tempted to depress or pull the plunger. Just put the switch into the holder, twist and re-install the connector.....and that's it IIRC.

Sorry RRSTDV8, I missed your reply here in the flurry of others. But thanks for the heads up on the battery. Also note your thoughts about the brake light switch - I guess that's what Col was talking about Robin

Also Ford, Mazda & LR all use the same switch. For some reason, I find the Mazda lasts a longer on the average.

I'v just taken the RRS up the road as an initial test - it behaved impeccably!!!

Later on this afternoon I'll take it to my indie. On the phone he asked if I had tried turning off and restarting when the engine fault appeared. I didn't because I was worried it might not start again. But he thought it could be a sticking EGR Valve that caused the initial fault???? But that wouldn't have caused the transmission or suspension faults would it?

Anyway, we'll hopefully see what his code reader says later on. Robin

OK. Back from the indie. Guess what? Engine fault caused by .....



....split in intercooler hose. Both hoses had just got old and hard and one had given up the ghost. There was a 2 inch split underneath. How the mechanic yesterday didn't see it especially as he actually went round checking the hoses. He must have gone away wondering how he managed to get his gloves so dirty Confused Very Happy

So - car is back and running well again - actually feels a bit nippier - and the strange groaning noise has gone! This may not have cured all the problems but I'll fit the new brake light switch when it arrives. Fingers crossed!
