South Africa 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Siberian Silver

seen on FB, from Dave van Graan, a chap who is doing a walking tour around Namibia:
"Here are a few photos of the new Land Rover Defender. Land Rover is currently conducting a 2 month test on these vehicles. They drive much the same route that I walked plus a few other tough routes from Opuwu, van Zyls Pass, to the Skeleton coast National Park, Puros, Sesfontein and back to Opuwu. They do not spare these cars and they are really well tested. They really have a new look and nothing like the old Defender."

Not sure that I could live with the "Saddlebags" In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

South Africa 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Siberian Silver

from Leisure Wheels magazine

"Defender adventure in Namibia, done and dusted. We piloted the new Land Rover Defender for 800km through Namibia's tough as nails Kaokoland. This was no la-de-da gravel road drive - we traversed some really tough 4x4 terrain. Full adventure and a comprehensive Defender 4x4 driving report in the upcoming May issue"

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

Some nice video reviews. Makes me want one, I have to say. Although the pricing means it would have to be carefully spec'd. I still the idea of a 90, blue with white roof and white steel wheels, a few options. But it'll be £50k which is a lot of money really. You can get a FFRR Autobiography for significantly less than that second hand with 50k miles on it. That's an enticing prospect... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

i was looking to find a replacement / supplement our current 9 year old TDv6. I just could not face purchasing
a third RRS in the row, it was time for a change, hate the look of the D5, the Defender ticked all the boxes in
terms of a new 4x4 that i could live with.

The rangie sport will be staying (wife's insistence) as her daily shopping trolley, the Defender will be set up for
some overland tours of Australia (hopefully within the next 9 months).. depending on when and if it ever arrives Laughing Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

From the PH review:

Quote:
Much as it did off-road, the Defender drives with more purpose than a Discovery.

It really does make me wonder what's the point of the Discovery now? If you absolutely must have 7 full size seats then I guess you're stuck with it, but if you don't need the extra seats, or a couple of occasional chairs in the boot are enough, then the Discovery does seem to be pointless. The Defender does the "rough and tumble cool and practical" and the RRS does the "luxury like a Rangie but better to drive" side better.

The old Disco had a very definite position in the line up. It was the most practical - bigger inside than anything else in the range, excellent off road and cheap enough that one would use it off road, decently comfortable without being lavish.

The new Defender does exactly what the old Disco did. The new Disco is betwixt and between.

I wonder if the new Defender will take Disco sales to the point where they kill it off. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

@RRSTDV8 I think you're right - sales of the D5 were already in the pits, this new Defender will make it tank completely!

here's a very interesting podcast from the guy who runs Expedition Portal, done after his tour of Namibia in the new Defender:
