Early RRS.

The front lower arms are knocking. They have been for a while and although it passes the MOT test, it's time to do them.

The indy I use recommends I fit genuine ones and says its a few hours of a job so not cheap.

Are the cheap ones on eBay generally any good or is it a false economy?

What might be the typical time it takes to change them?

Is this the type of job best left to an indy familiar with them or can any half decent (non RRS specialist) garage do this job?

Just trying to figure out the best way to go with the job without having my hat nailed on if I can avoid it. Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.

Not the cheapest, but certainly one of the better suspension arms I've ever fitted. Been fitting them for around 3.5 years now, and they come with a 4year warranty

Never had to replace one even after all this time

If the front bush and ball joint are OK, then rebush

If the arms are old and rusty, then rebush

Do you mean replace if the arms are old and rusty? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Recently fitted a set of the Meyle arms from Advanced Factors, fitted perfectly with no problems and looked top quality, whole kit cost less than price of one arm from L/R. Did try arms with Poly bushes first but found them a little harsh for my liking, so fitted the rubber one's instead. Not the nicest job to do if you don't have a ramp but not to a difficult job. I was fortunate in the fact that only one bolt was seized and had to be cut off.

As above, Meyle HD front arms. I have these on mine and and they are great.

The rearmost hydrabush, which is the one that is most prone to failure, is replaced with a solid rubber one so will last a long time.
