Coolant leak 400 miles from home

Good morning all,

i drove up to Oban yeaterday for work and my coolant low warning came on aprox four times in 400 miles on my journey. fortuantly i had some water in the boot so used this to top the sysem up.

As i am due to drive back home later today after visting a couple of sites on the Isle of Mull i would like to see if there is anything obvious i an check before i start driving again.

i have searched this forum and noted that the oil cooler (next to the fillter) is sometimes suspect. i have checked for creamy oil and dont appear to have any.

Also, i intend to presure test the system when back home by either jerry rigging a presure cap or purchasing a toolset to complete. just wondering what presure i should be running it up to. (noting the engine should be warm to ensure the thermostat is open)

Thanks

I remember an article about a steel into rubber hose down by the thermostat and the hose ran down passenger side of the engine (2.7). They found it just by chance and the steel had corroded on the outside which caused coolant loss.

Worth a look. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

on my way home last night i deared take the car up to 2k reves, the water level dropped very quickly say less than 30miles as i had to pull in to the next servicdes after topping it up.

If i remember does the second turbo kick in around this mark and if so what part of the coolant could be affected.. or do the EGR valves open at this point?

keeping the car at a steady 60 approx 1600 revs it seemd to last 60-90 miles between fill ups....

Thanks

Hi All, i believe i have identified where the leak is coming from. please see the below photo. this is under the Throttle body (sorry corrected) at the top centre of the engine. this was hissing with very fine bubbles when the engine revved.

Has anyone experienced this before and can you please confirm what part/s were replaced in order to fix the issue.

I think i have identified the part, LR73372 Water connector.

Does anyone know what else is required or advisable to change when swapping this part?

thanks

The second turbo kicks in at about 2800rpm.

Glad you got home in the end. Fingers crossed replacing that will solve the problem. Kev

Please see pic below, the coolant had not spilt out as the system was low already so was already there.

As a precaution and because the part was cheap £26 I have bought the part I highlighted earlier, unfortunately they did not stock the Ring for the oil cooler.

does anyone have experience with the oil cooler failing, and if so would the loss of coolant be a symptom?

Coolant leak fixed

Update: Leak fixed, no need to swap the o-ring on the oil filter housing as replacing the water connector (LR73372) sorted the problem. The part was held in stock which is telling in it's own right by lrparts.net who are based within 20miles so managed to get there and back with no issues Smile

just need to drain and refill now with the correct mixture of coolant & water..
