I looked at a Ffrr over xmas and was told by the dealer that if I like how my sport drives I wouldn't like the big Range Rover as it would feel like a boat and I should stick with a sport as it is more driver focused.

Not sure if this is the case as never test drove the ffrr or they were just wanting to sell me a sport as they had more of them 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

Rolling Eyes back at you. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

We went to a LR test drive day because I was not happy with my Velar having had 6 Vogues over many years.

We drove a Vogue V6 and the ride was awful, felt like it was floating, my wife commented on it within a few miles, when we got back to the dealer I was asked what I thought of it and I mentioned the ride, they suggested I should have selected sports mode or tried a V8.

We then took a Sport out and I was impressed by the inside and the ride, the last time I was in a Sport was when they were first announced.

We picked up our 2018 Sport V6 AB on Tuesday and so far very impressed but have not towed with it yet.

Go for the V8 or be prepared to drive around in sport mode.

Ian

Just to add my two peneth worth! I would say the description of the above car is to differentiate it between a FFRR and a RRS for people who aren't fully in the know. It looks like AB spec.
The one thing i always consider is if the engine is chain or belt driven. If you are not keeping it for a long time i suppose this isn't so important, but belt changes on V6's cost quite a few of our british pounds, whereas this isn't an issue on V8's. Also as mentioned VED can be a factor for running costs. There are different prices for cars with what seems to be the same engine and spec, so maybe worth checking. i personally would go for the V8 every time. Good luck with your purchase anyway.. Good points to consider here, agreed too about the belt vs chain as I became aware of this during my ownership of my old V8 RR sport , i was quite happy when the garage told me it wouldnt be required when i had my service carried out.

Is it every 60k miles that this is required?

I dont quite get why the drive would be affected other than power and torque, is there something else in the set up that is different between the V8 and V6.

I know its different but with my Boxster S the GTS models have different engine mounts and it feels like a tighter drive.
i suppose something like going into sports mode on some other cars. although I wouldnt want to drive around all of the time in sports mode in a land rover.

perhaps I will try a later model RR sport SDV6 as the extra horsepower also appeals and im guessing that the later V6 variant will have as much power as the old V8 but I bet it wont have that roar.

"note to self - this car is supposed to be for the missus" Very Happy

A chain in theory should never need changing, just the tensioner possibly. Current: 2010 RRS 3.6 TDV8 HSE

I’ve had both a Sport (2012) and currently a FFRR (2011). Sport is tighter, Full Fat is more wollowy but only if really pushing it. I prefer the full fat over bumps. Less crashy Whistle Visitor from fullfatrr.com
