My licences was never returned and I obtained a replacement from DVLA.......

But just over a year gone and I received a letter last week – a summons to appear at a French court! Has anybody experienced anything like this? I guess my options are to a) appear b) ignore the letter c) write to them and just tell them that I can’t appear and for the case to be dealt with in my absence (which the letter states is an option. Does anybody know what the potential consequences of just ignoring the letter are?

Cheers

I couldn’t say anything for sure but I believe there is a reciprocal agreement that entitles the French Police to pursue you and I suppose they could request extradition if they wanted. The overall process is probably very similar to our own. It maybe best to reply stating they should proceed in your absence. 2012 5.0 SC AB

If you ever want to go to France again, don't ignore it. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Reading back through the thread, you said that you were issued with a form on the day (receipt for your €750) and they wanted to change the form at a later date.

I assume this would work in your favour and would seek specialist (French) legal advise based on this. I would also seek advice on what would happen if you let the case be heard in your absence.

Based on that advice decide whether to fight it or "pay up" and put it down to experience. MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

I strongly advise you to comply with their summons albeit it in absentia
I was tracked in a uk hire van and sent a fine and summons if objecting
The only issue you may face is that you exceeded the limit to be sent a fine and hence a court appearance
No hesitation in complying is my advice .... it’s only the cost of a few tanks of gas versus no more Le Mans!
Also don’t give Mr Macron an excuse to charge you more! --------------------------------

Violet, how did this end?
For all those reading this be aware Switzerland is even worse a fine there would be around three times that amount which is just a shame as their mountain roads are phenomenal. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

I wrote to the French Magistrate Court and told them that I was unable to appear in person and for the case to be dealt with in my absence and give another written statement and apologised for being a daft laddy. The hearing was on 21 October and I haven't heard anything from them.
