Hi all.

Interesting point about the sensitivity being for the rear only and the stalk pictograms being misleading. I've had a couple of BMWs (1998 & 2006) and a 2006 911 and their rain sensor worked perfectly, starting and stopping the wipers spot on. I've also had a Disco 3 and Disco 4 and now have a 2015 RRS HSE and the rain sensor on the D3 and RRS are terrible!! There is no rhyme or reason to the logic...they fail to start so you're forced to manually turn them on then when the screen is dry they don't stop (when on auto) and flail from side to side on double speed wearing the rubbers out!! My screen is clean and there is no damage so what the 😡 is going on...I don't know!

I'll be raising this with landrover when it goes in for the next service....they need to get some
German logic installed.😂

Most strange, I have no problem with the front intermittent wipe feature, you turn the rotary dial on stalk one way to increase gap in between wipes and the other way to decrease. The rear wiper on mine though goes three wipes at turn on and one wipe every few seconds, which I have no means of altering. I also have rain sensor, so when stationary the wipers don't seem to move. Of course also continuous wipe and continuous wipe but at a lot faster speed. Never noted any problem. John

In 2000 BMW had a function which would reduce the wiper selection by 1 when stationary.

So if you had continuous wipe selected, if would reduce to intermittent. etc
intermittent would goto off.


Sounds like that has been implemented on the later RRS.

If i remember correctly on the FFRR, you use the stalk itself to alter the frequency of the rear wiper, eg, if you put it on count to five for example then switch it off it changes the speed, but don't quote me on that, i've slept since then...  Current: 2010 RRS 3.6 TDV8 HSE

As above, RainX or equivalent. I only need to use an occasional flick wipe when going slow in traffic. Once on the move, 30mph plus, never need to use them as the rain just blows off. The quicker you go the faster it clears In fact I cant remember when they were last used & I live in "sunny" Scotland. Never ever had to use my washers either

This also drives me nuts. I've fiddled with the delay, and it does not alter the rear wiper delay, which seems fixed at 30 elephants
I can't be sure, but I think it may have worked if I turn the wipers to off whenever I change the sensitivity.

I'll have to go and test it later, now I think about it again

Right, I think it works better, if when you change the sensitivity setting on the wipers, you switch them off, then back on again.

At least with the current weather, I have plenty of opportunity to try it !

Just picked up a 2016 SVR and thought my intermittent wipe was broken as it wipes way too fast, it the same speed the same as the on position on mine.

I came from an L405 and never had such an issue so was sure I had a fault, until I read this. May consider the RainX option as wiping them myself with the tap down on the stalk becomes a chore on a 2 hour drive in the light rain we often get that is too light for always wiping setting.

This is the same as on the D4's, and I for one have turned OFF the rain sensor option in the CCF, which then returns the delayed wipers to a conventional adjustable DELAY system..
Post a note in the Disco4 forum, and one of the GAPII PRO tool owners may well be able to do the same for your RR's. 2011 MY D4 HSE

In my experience, intermittent sensor can be fooled by car wash, especially with wax/other treatments. After car wash (with wax) intermittent sensor gets over sensitive, cleaning the sensor area with a towel solves the problem. As far as I see, not a sensor problem, my Mercedes before had the same issue.

It must be just mine that works fine for me. I have it on Auto and it works with no issue. 2012 5.0 SC AB
