Fully spec'd ones are 80k !!!!

Not sure about that at all.

Even waiting 6 months for a decent discount and its still not tempting !!

I get it, I do, but for what I do, the Range Rover line suits me a lot better, I don't think these look right for Central London, but I forsee loads of them appearing.

Oh wait the 90 isn't immediately available just the 110, and if you want the 3litre engine, have to get the 78k base price X.

Umm, still not getting it. Am I missing something here? Non JLR Vehicle

England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

I had been waiting for the unveiling and had planned to buy one if I liked it and, from what I have seen, I do like it. I even sold my L494 and began using my old 2005 TD6 Vogue “Dog Car” as my daily drive so that at the unveil I would be in a position to order a new Defender without the hassle of a trade in.

The price is way, way over the top. I expected a price range from £30k to 60k. Maybe I was being unrealistic but I personally would find it hard to buy a Defender for Range Rover money.

From my various travels I think that global recession wise we are once again at the very top of the rollercoaster and about to begin the trip down. This, along with all the uncertainty regarding current and future fuel to power cars had persuaded me to sit back for another year to see what happens.

From chatting with a good friend who is a car dealer he let slip that many people who take out a PCP on a car and keep it for the full term are now finding themselves in negative equity. I have been in that position with houses during previous recessions and don’t want to repeat it with a car.

Just my thoughts but I do like the look of the new Defender just not the outrageous price.

I have always bought my cars and have never used PCP. I thought there was a guaranteed final value and if the car was worth less you could just walk away?

You are correct, on PCP there is a guaranteed future value and you cannot have negative equity. It may be that purchasers think there car will be worth more than the future value at maturity of the contract and hence have positive equity, they are then disappointed to find that this isn't the fact.

Oh dear....

The 110 looks like a shoe box on alloys. The 90 has decent proportions but in the Hammond launch, he refers to it as a supercomputer on wheels.

Since JLR can't even design a decent infotainment system that works as advertised, more electronics does not bode well. No manual option. Air suspension on a Defender? JLR Can't help themselves.

JLR had an opportunity to go back to basics and design something rugged and reliable. Farmer Giles will soon be Censored off with taking this to the dealer.

Probably great for taking Tarquin and Anastasia to their pwivate school though, a bit different to all those common Wangies.

This just drove up the values of "real" Defenders.

What a rubbish! JLR could have learned with its iconic Defender from other iconic brands like Porsche (911) and BMW (twin engine motor cycles). They went in this sort of adventure unsuccesfully decades ago and returned to their roots.
A new Defender could i.e. be an (cheaper) alternative for the iconic Mercedes G-wagon, but no, JLR is following a diffent road.

A few salient ones:

14 - Defender's electrics gets IP67 electrical rating
The electronics and connections in the new Defender have been designed to meet the IP67 water immersion standards. That means they can be submerged in one metre of fresh water for an hour without intrusion or damage.

31 - Bullbar
Land Rover has developed a ’roo bar specifically for Australia. To be made of steel, the bar will be offered as an accessory, keeping intact all sensors and safety systems. The ’roo bar will be revealed closer to the car’s June 2020 on-sale date.

34 - Crawl time
The Defender has an impressively low crawl ratio of 51.5:1 for diesel versions and 57.2:1 for the six-cylinder petrol.

45 - Stopping power
There is no mechanical link between the brake pedal and the brake discs. Instead the Defender gets a brake-by-wire system claimed to provide more “precise, linear brake pressures”. Engineers also say the electronic braking system helps with off-road traction due to the ability to better regulate braking to each individual wheel.

I think it's a fantastic reincarnation and have ordered a First Edition. Don't really need all those expensive packs as won't be going offroad so just added the wheel arch extensions, rear wheel cover and bonet decal from the accessories catalogue - price is under £65k which is not bad IMHO.

Generally people are loving them - never seen so many positive comments on social media and pistonheads - JLR seem to have got this one right for a change. The media seem to like it too.

I will be interested to see what comes from the stable next - maybe a RRS coupe as everyone else seems to be at the coupe bandwagon GLE, Cayenne, X4/X6 Question
