EPB Woes and a Question

So it's become obvious that my EPB module is toast (horrible noises, emergency release doesn't work etc etc) and I need to arrange a replacement.

However at the moment the car cannot be driven as the parking brake is seized on.

Since I believe I'm right in saying that the new module comes with the cables attached, is there any reason my mobile mechanic can't cut the current cables to free off the shoes, allowing the car to be driven to the garage who will replace the part?

Yep, I got the jack handle out of the boot, threaded it through the loop and gave it the full beans, the cable itself pulls just fine, it's just like there's nothing on the end of it!

You can cut the cables but depends on why they are stuck if its just bad adjustment may be worth also looking to see if the shoes can be backed off at all if there stuck solid you may not get the holes to line up with adjuster i assume as the cable has been pulled the arm in the epg has released have a look at bodseys brake bible i know its on disco3 under the wiki Thumbs Up

Tried to back them off this afternoon, unfortunately they are stuck solid so, as you say, we cannot get the discs to line up - I'm really struggling to see another way other than cutting the cables!

Remove EPB cover and unjam module

Cutting cables leads to a whole world of unnecessary expense Thumbs Up

Well i think you will have to cut cables and hope they release the shoes from the discs and maybe rap the discs to get them in

Agreed, but I can't see how that's possible on the side of the street with no ramp / lift

I think you're probably right, moment of truth tomorrow afternoon!

On another subject Gogsy could you possibly grab me the part numbers from your TV tuner module, we have the same model year of car and one of the things I want to do is retrofit the TV system but I need to know the correct digital module to look for lol - cheers!
