Front passenger door wont lock

Hi, my front N/S passenger door has decided to not lock, ive tried to use the key, but i cant get it to lock. ive pressed the lock unlock buttons on the dash but this doesnt help, if i lean over and try from the inside to lock the door, the button seems to lock, but the door will still open from the outside.

any tip lads, i dont like the idea of my car being unlocked when left.

This is a common problem. I have had this problem on two of my doors.

You need to replace the latch. Alternatively, the motor inside the latch can be replaced.

Do a search on here and also on disco3.co.uk as it has been covered many times before and there is plenty of information out there. Kev

Thanks for the reply I'm going to remove the door panel later and see if anything has dropped off or snapped. Likewise I'll post any results cheers.

It’s not worth taking the door card off without having the replacement latch available.....inside the latch unit are tiny little motors similar in size to those on scalextrix cars...these wind and unwind the latches electronically...they will have failed....

The locks need to be replaced or the motors rebuilt within....Britpart sell them for about 30 quid each...

It’s a fiddly but doable job providing you take your time...you will also need to drop the window !
Really common problem !

Thank you for the information I will squire a new latch before taking off the trim. The latch design appears to be cheap and nasty.. thanks anyway cheers

They are actually quite complex when you see them up close...
If you are going to do it yourself take your time...there are some good videos on You Tube... they are the same type of locks fitted to Freelanders and Discovery’s so look at those videos...

You will need to take the door card off and then remove the window winder mechanism. To do this you need to release the window glass from the mechanism.... I found it easier to do this by removing the rubber strip at the bottom of the window and sliding a ruler down the outside of the glass to release the little white catch at the bottom of the window pane...

There are also two cables to release from the lock mechanism which you will need a small pick to release the little white clips that hold them in place.... take you time and don’t force them otherwise you will need to order new cables as well!

Have patience and you will be rewarded.... Smile

Just attempted to replace the door lock actuator on the rear driver side door of our 2011 RRS but the replacement part I got off ebay (which said it was compatible) only had one plug port and the original had two. Anyone know where to source a two plug alternator? Comparison pic below, original on the right:

Either Advanced factors or Island 4x4 but you need to quote to them your VIN number as there are different types for different ages... Very Happy

Recently had the same problem myself with the driver's door. Had the latch mechanism replaced - £80 labour, £30 parts - problem solved.

That's because the one on right is a keyless one and the one on the left isn't Wink Kev

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HSE Java Black

HI everyone, well i've removed the passenger door trim, i'm trying to replace my door latch as explained, My car is a 2007 range rover sport, i've hit a brick wall, i lower the glass down 5 inch, to see the window lower edge through the door aperture, i have located the white nylon clamp which locks the glass in place, but i can't fathom out how to release this clamp from the glass, i've read that you have to prise apart this nylon clamp but i can't for the life of me, figure out how to do this, what tool do i use, how much force is involved to achieve success, im at the stage of asking an indie to do it, if anyone has any suggestions id be very grateful, ill give it one more try..
also if anyone on here know any Merseyside garages that would do the job for me, could you give me a contact number.
Thanks in advance.
Ken.
