Reversing camera backwards?

Hi all,

I picked up a new-to-me 2010 (facelifted interior) TDV8 a couple of weeks ago and have driven it a couple of times now (given it went back for warranty work for a week when the EML came on during the second drive! Embarassed That'll be two new EGR valves, then...) and noticed something weird that I don't remember when test driving other cars:

The image in the reversing camera is back-to-front! It's very weird seeing everything swapped around when backing up.. is that a known thing? Are they all like that and I just didn't spot it during test drives?

Also trying to figure out how to put an Android headunit in, but while there are great solutions for the older interior I convinced myself that I really wanted the facelifted interior (d'oh!) and it looks like the only solution is this one: https://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic52342.html - which is both expensive (very!) and only has LHD trim available. Sigh, never one to make things easy for myself, sadly Laughing

Anyway.. hello, everyone!

Aaron

If the camera is a eye ball type (aftermarket), just grab it and twist it round 180°

Andy - I am assuming it's factory fit, right up in the roof spoiler, but I'll have a proper look at it to make sure, good point! Smile

It's hard to take a picture ... as I'd have to take one from both directions at once Mr. Green but - if there's a lamp post behind me on the passenger side of the car, then in the picture on the screen it's on the right hand side of the screen.. I take it back, let me take a picture Very Happy

I'm fairly certain mine gives a view similar to the rear view mirror. Not like I've turned around and am looking out the back window. Really important for the driving lines proijection. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

I seem to remember from when I was researching for my MY10 that if the view from the rear camera is the wrong way round it is Censored and the only fix is a new one.

Yeah, known issue on some early facelift RRS1's, new camera needed if I remember correctly.

Aha.. and balls Laughing

It is indeed an early facelift being on a 59 plate, registered January 2010.. about as early as they come. Given the camera doesn't show any lines and is so high up on the tailgate the image makes it look like you'll back over something about three metres away, the whole thing seems to be about as much use as a chocolate fireguard!

Luckily none of the other cars have one (they're far too old for such gizmos), so I don't really 'miss' it - it's more of a distraction than anything else with it being back to front as it makes my brain go "Eh?!" Smile

See example - click for larger pics - the house is on the right hand side of the screen:

But it's actually over my left shoulder:

(Apologies for the blur-o-matic pictures Laughing )

Points if anyone can tell what snuck into frame in the last picture... Mr. Green

Laughing Laughing That's one of the giant (council) trees that line our road - "What a lovely tree lined avenue," my other half said when we looked at the place...

...that is not what i say every autumn when I'm dragging the accumulated leaves from half the road to the tip! Mr. Green

Nice AC Cobra (assume a replica - DAX? Pilgrim?)

Assuming a kit car is it a work in progress or completed and what specs? MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

Definitely a replica as my budget is sub seven figures Wink It's a DAX, pre current ownership when they were still based in Essex rather than Belgium (although IIRC they do still have a facility in Essex), and definitely a work in progress (don't ask for how long!)

The end might actually be in sight now; the engine is out for rebuild, the gearbox has arrived, and the only thing left will be headers to mate engine to side-pipes and a prop shaft to mate gearbox to diff! Actually it was the Cobra that prompted me to buy the RRS so I can easily cart that lot about the place, not to mention trailer it to be painted, IVA'd etc.

Oh, spec - Ford 428FE big block stroked to 462cu in (~7.6L in new money), Tremec T56 6-speed gearbox, the rest is standard DeDion running gear (Jag XJ40 uprights, diff, half shafts etc) Smile

You need a new camera, the image correction part has failed. Are you any good with spanner’s? I have the internals from a 2012 if you want them? Or send your unit to me and I’ll fit the internals. It needs a minute Torx screw driver to get the four screws out. 2012 5.0 SC AB

I'm reasonably handy with the spanners and I'll happily take the guts of the 2012 if it works out cheaper than I can find the complete replacements for (which seems to be £200+!) Smile I'll drop you a PM.. thanks!
