Hot Spot Charging Point

I have a 2012 L320
and I am asking if the USB in the fridge lid would charge the unit?
if so does it power down when the car is off?

If that is a no go position does the rear cigar lighter power down
once the car shuts down?

Thank you kindly for your help with this.. ===========================================

I had a feeling they did , but could be wrong on that. Added this to mine so could charge phone shut in the glovebox out of sight, also fitted rocker switch so could make permanent live if required.

Cheers

The answer to the question of whether the rear socket remains live is that it depends on model year - in 2010 the rear sockets in my FFRR were powered up with the ignition off, but we’re not for my 2011 and 2014 Evoques and the 2015 RRS but the 2007MY RRS and the RRS before that the sockets stayed live. I had to have a bespoke software enhancement to the BMS done to my first Evoque to allow me to use a solar powered trickle charger when the car was flattening it’s battery if not used for a week or longer. Since then I have got round the trickle charging issue by utilising the jump start posts under the bonnet and connecting my solar charger to those, but that isn’t much use for USB charging. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

My 2012 (and all 2012 RRS) powers down as it is directly fed from the head unit which shuts down the media system after 5 minutes or something like that.

The 2010 to 12 models were controlled by a separate USB module so may have stayed active after ignition off. Pretty much every JLR car with the IAM 2.1 control the USB so will Shut down. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Yes it will charge fine, but on a 12MY it will switch off after the ignition is off. That’s where I have my USB stick connected. 2012 5.0 SC AB

In theory it will use its own battery and just top itself up when the car is running,
if not I will have to take it inside and charge it from time to time,,

Thank you all for the advice.. ===========================================

I had a hot sport similar to yours, I don't use mine as a Daily driver therefore it kept turning off when the battery ran out and my journeys were not long enough to charge it back up again.

The other annoying things were that the Hot Spot would not turn on with the ignition if it had turned off, you would have to turn it on manually every time. Also it sensed there was nothing connected too it, it would also turn itself off.

This drove me up the wall not knowing if it would be on or off, I ended up buying an older Hot Spot, a USB one that powers on once the USB port gets power. This means it turns on as soon as you turn the car on.

I then wanted it on all the time so that I can get notifications from my Dashcam when parked, I already have a power Magic hardwired for the dashcam, therefore I just plugged a USB adapter into this and it stays on all the time. If the battery gets too low it turns off and then powers back up automatically when the ignition is turned on.

Hope this helps, same model/year as yours.

I just use the app 'Hotspotstarter' on my phone and it starts and stops my hotspot when my phone connects to the Bluetooth in the vehicle Kev

Just wow Neutral

I had never thought off having a hotspot in my car, trying to conjure up a use case other than possibly not using the data in my phone.
