Timing belt change on a low mileage vehicle Yes or No?

So 7 years or 112k miles whichever first is the service schedule but has my Range Rover Sport / L320 has only done 60k would it be foolhardy of me just to have a normal service leaving the belt changes to be done later at 80k for example?
Does the tooth belt material really degrade to that extent?

Was quoted in advance over 2K at Stafford Landrover during its 6 year service even when they had a this offer on (You can take advantage of this offer, exclusive to Stafford Land Rover for just £899 (inc. VAT) or £1,150 when combined with a 7 year service.) Shocked

I got mine done "early" because, as the garage said - if you don't do it now, you need to remember to get it done later because we might not remember.

Find a decent Indy and pay a lot less than dealership prices for this. There really is no reason for using a main dealer outside of the manufacturer's warranty period. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

my local Dealer is quoting £1,540 Big Cry

That is an issue has the 2 yr warranty runs out just after the 7yr service.I was under the impression the service manager thought he was talking to a company director when quoting £2186 but armed with the knowledge of their cambelt offer at under half that the Welder inside me popped out saying "How mucking Fuch mate!"
Derby 4X4 have been recommended and are alot cheaper apparantly.

If you use main dealers on older vehicles then you deserve to get your wallet emptied. The stamp in the book will never make the money back. Use a decent Indy FFS. Heck, it'd be cheaper to drive up to Jockshire, get Disco_Mikey to do it, spend the night in a hotel and drive home than use a main dealer in Englandshire. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I am an advocate of whatever comes the soonest, ie time, on a low mileage car or mileage on a high mileage car. Rubber perishes with both age & use. Its not worth taking the risk of a breakage Big Cry

Not sure if I'm not charging enough, or if the dealers are charging too much Rolling with laughter

I do know that our 3 nearest dealers all quote around £1300, and its a 3 day turnaround, as they still lift the body off. And we have 7 sets of 3.0 belts booked in the month alone Laughing

Had mine done for (from memory) 850 all in with service included at a specialist indy. Bang on 7 years with mileage at around 84k. Although 60k is low mileage not worth the risk as the belts will eventually deteriorate.

60k in 7 years is about 8.5k/ yr so 112k miles would take 13 years, so nearly twice the recommend time. One thing I would never mess with is not changing out the belts dead on time on any car where this is required as if they fail on you..... well you know the rest and it wouldn't be good.

Some good points being made and I do agree that some of the main dealer pricing is ridiculous.

Other than Derby 4 x4 anyone know of any decent indys near Derby/Burton on Trent?
