Scrubbing/grinding from near side front

Hi all,

Our 2017 AB has started making an intermittent scrubbing/grinding noise from the near side front when cornering at approx 20-30mph on that wheel when you go around a roundabout or take a junction. I’ve checked the tyre pressures, wheel & under arch area etc & there is no evidence of anything wrong. It was making a slight noise in a similar way just before it’s first service in November & the dealer said they inspected & checked everything & there was nothing to worry about & it did seem to go away. It always seems worse when everything is cold ie first thing in the morning. I think it maybe the steering rack or something to do with that?

Has anyone had any similar issues/problems & if so what was the cause/cure?

Malc

Always difficult to diagnose at a distance. It may be something as simple as a brake pad rubbing rust on the disc, or some grit trapped in the caliper. It also sounds like a wheel bearing, so I would be checking that carefully.

I wouldn`t rule it out, but a worn CV joint usually makes a clicking sound on turns. A split CV boot might rub and make a noise though.

Thanks for the replies, it seems to be steering related as you get a feel of the scrubbing noise through the steering wheel now, it is getting worse when cold but fades away as the car warms up while being driven, only there when you turn right with pressure on the front nearside wheel at speeds over 15 mph, if you slow right down it’s not there, if you drive straight & turn right sharply it’s there right away but only until you straighten up again, we are going on holiday so will get it booked in on our return as long as it’s still there! These intermittent faults are a pain in the ass.

Car has only done 9k miles.

Hmm. That sounds odd. It should really be checked soon.

Hog,

Mine had started to loose fluid from the active anti roll bar system, eventually it was diagnosed as corroded pipes on the connections to the arb, this was on an l494 2017 plate car, once they replaced the parts all has been fine since.

Hope this helps?
