Service again?

Car had a main dealer service in August. Now, less than 2k later it’s saying oil service due in 4400 miles?

If it’s anything like last time, even that figure will drop which could mean a service due after around 4 months or less than 6k? WTF is going on there then? Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

Mine needed an oil service six months and 6,000 miles after the last service. The dealer changed the oil and filter under something called ‘dealer empowerment’ which meant there was no charge and apparently no impact on the five year service plan. However, I’m still left wondering how long it will take for the problem to return . . . . Seriously considering changing back to petrol or looking at PHEV next time. Current: 2020 P400e HSE Dynamic

Services seem to come up on my SC every 6 months here, I think Australia is considered a harsh environment. Thing is that I will only have done about 2000 miles since the last service as I now work from home and use Uber for short visits to town.

Harsh environments on Vehicles isn't so much heat but changes in temp and of course dust. I went to some trouble years ago trying to find why Audi spec'd miles for service in the USA and Kilometers in Australia, I mean 10,000 miles or 10,000 K's if in Australia. When I asked the dealer they said Australian conditions were harsh. I then checked the component manufacturer who said that temp changes where the biggest issues, this was to do with timing belts. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Of note also was warranty period was longer in Australia , perhaps a plan to try and eliminate damage or increase dealer profits?? M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Dropping like a stone now in normal non harsh conditions. Down to 3850 in about 50 actual miles. Tried booking at guy salmon and the earliest appt with a car was 17th DECEMBER!

Will have to try some other dealers as at this rate it will be needing service by the end of the week!!

Edit; or possibly it is a software issue? They updated the software at service due to some issues with apps. Wondering if the new software is overly cautious about dilution. Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

I took mine in some months back as the service indicator came up too early , they did a software update as per the bulletin and as the service indicator did not come back on they sent me on my way . Anyway we serviced it as we should at 16000 mile interval when it came which was 6000 miles ago, but now it's saying service in 3500 miles ! As it's had the software update this time it must be due to the oil dilution or rather the computer predicting this from too many failed regen attempts .
I have a tractor with a DPF , a dash light comes on to indicate when it's doing a regen and the Handbook says to never stop the engine until it has finished , the problem with the Range Rover is there is no indicator light and so no doubt the engine gets stopped mid flow through a dpf regen , meaning it fails to regen and has to do another which in turn leads to it needing a shorter service interval . We do next to no city driving as we live in the sticks and being in the hills the engine gets plenty of work so it's not our driving style but if they just put an indicator light for a regen on the dash I'm sure we could avoid a lot of this problem MY 18 RRS HSE Dynamic ,MY 16 RRS Autobiography now gone & MY 2005 Discovery 3 HSE that I will be buried in !

Being a mechanic I see this a lot more with fords to be honest but generally if the car doesn’t complete a dpf regen it dumps a lot of diesel into the oil, we mainly see this in our short journey users tbh does the car do long runs or more short journeys?

Make sure when you get your car back after a service that they have actually reset everything and the next service isn't due for 16000 miles. They havent' always reset mine. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB
