Service needed already.

My car is showing a service is due after just 9000 miles and 9 months.

The service book states 16000 miles or 1 year so I don't understand why it would be so different to this.

Is it normal ?

I think also you will find that there is a disclaimer in the owner's manual to the effect that it also depends on use, not just elapsed time and miles. Do you use the car for a lot of city driving? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Double check your oil level is not rising, as this can be caused by failed DPF regens, and pollutes the sump with diesel fuel, with disastrous effects on the engine.

Otherwise, there is some form of oil quality sensor that reports back to the ECU, mine has just asked for an oil service 2000 miles before the normal interval. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

I use it mainly mainly around town for 10 to 20 mile trips average.

I do get it changes with how you use it but it seems a way off from what the booklet suggests as I expected to get to the year before it needed a service.

Oil level is at half way and I've never topped it up.

The add blue i assume says it's good for another 4000+ miles.

Maybe it's just me and this is normal just not had any car before which is so far out from the claimed booklet.

The reason is the short drives in the city, the car may have plenty of oil but the quality may have reduced significantly with carbon in it - that is down to usage. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

This is interesting I assume from this thread and subsequent posts that the RRS has oil quality sensors built in like modern day trucks. If this is the case would anyone know what the sensors check ? M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

I believe they monitor the oxidation of the oil.

There are quite a few different methods, some as simple as monitoring how the vehicle is driven to more accurate and complex method such as oil analysis. I would really like to know if our cars have the cheap version or the technology version.

If you have the service pack why are you worried that the service required icon is on? Problem is that if you don't service it within the 28 days or a small leeway after that then LR could hold it against you (as they have been known to) for not heeding the warnings to service it and then having a failure. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I wasn't worried Tim was just after a few opinions as the figures didn't add up to me.

Car is booked in for a service but if your expecting once a year or 16k miles for a service giving a little give and take for driver style etc I think It should be questioned when mine is 9k and needing that service as that's 40% less than the claimed figures and 40% seems odd.

Ill see what service say when I drop the car off.

Think this goes to how the oil quality is assessed. As per the link if it is usage based ten an early service may appear even though the oil is in good shape, no matter what you have to have it done for warranty purpose. I am interested to know if it is usage based because the oil could be well worn out and doing damage due to other factors and one will not know. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

28 days?

I booked mine in the very same day that I saw the service indicator. The first date they could get it in was more than 28 days away.................I specifically asked if it was OK to keep using the car, they said it was fine? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.
