My tailgate has decided not to open the glass top bit, if you push the button the whole thing opens but not just the glass bit.

Hi guys. No not the button it's the other one for the glass bit. Button works fine to open the whole thing. |

Prime suspect is the switch - known to be a weakness. You press the rubber cover which operates a lever which in turn operates a tiny microswitch. The whole switch assembly is a simple DIY job to replace; it can be carefully levered out without doing any other dismantling but there is less chance of doing damage if you first remove the plastic trim piece below the rear window glass and gain better access.

Hi Chris yes it is the tailgate switch which is at fault. Remove switch from between number plate lights. Remove rubber cover and you will see the problem, the alloy hinge piece will be corroded. When you push the rubber button, it pushes the hinge up onto the micro switch. But because it is corroded it does not move. Scape it off and give it some WD40. I did this 18 months ago, still working fine. A new switch on ebay is about £25 itisme |

All sorted with this thanks to flack who had the RRS in last week for a service, cambelt changes. Really nice guy, very knowledgable, ran me back to work and sorted my tailgate switch for the upper section which wasn't working. Gives me real piece of mind knowing a local guy that I can trust and has the knowledge of these.
