Radio Low Power Mode

lo all,

I have a very intermittent problem which happens very occasionally.

Sometimes when driving and I have the volume on the radio over 20, it will come up and say Low Power Mode and then you cannot turn it up past 20 on the volume again until you turn the engine off and back on again.

Like I say this happens very occasionally and not on every journey.

I had a new battery fitted a couple of months ago. I get the feeling something is draining the battery power.

Any ideas?

Get you alternator checked out would be my first option.

As Ady says classic early symptom of an alternator on its way out. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Why doesn't the alternator light come on then??

I have read plenty of reports of alternator failure and there is not fault indication. In the good old days if you had an alternator failure the light would come on.

Exactly,

I have no lights on the dash and as mentioned this happens very occasionally.

Is there anyway I can test the alternator voltage myself to test whether it is that what is causing the problem.

Any local garage will test it for you for free.

The light didnt always come on...i suppose the conditions have to be right for the light to come on on any car, a minor fault wouldnt show up Mike

I've had a u/s alternator with no alternator light, radio low power mode on mine as well. Initially AA tested alternator and said it was ok, so I replaced the battery. A few days later same fault, replaced the alternator and no more problems. If the fault is intermittent it may not show up when tested, as was thecase with mine
