EGRs again

RRS TDV6 07MY with 64,000km - starting the next day after a continuous 1400km trip the check engine light came on - car still runs OK.

ECU codes read
P0490 - EGR Circuit Control
P0405 - EGR Sensor A
P1335 - EGR Position Sensor
P0140A - EGR Sensor C
P1623 - Immobilizer Code Failure
U0164, 0155, 0102 - Lost Communications with A/C system, instruments, Tfr Case
P140E - EGR position sensor C

On clearing the ones that remain are
P0405 - EGR Sensor A
P0140A - EGR Sensor C - Circuit Low - General Signal Failure.

The engine check light has gone out but did come back on once and then removed.

I take it that EGR Sensors A and C are basically the sensors in each of the EGRs.

So I can assume that my EGRs are on the way out?

Thanks

Yes, I'm afraid so, (common problem), I have just changed the L/H valve(viewed from drivers seat) on mine, which had faults showing sensor 'B' and circuit low 'C'. Previously (3 yrs ago) I had circuit low on 'A' which relates to the R/H valve, which was changed under warranty. Mine was pulling away slower than a snail,(suspect valve sticking open), most disconcerting and bl**dy dangerous at times.........Ok now, but for how long Whistle RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

Thanks Texstar - sad thing is performance is great so must be stuck in the closed position - best blanks out but the engine light comes on. Noticed it only comes on every few starts but not when the car is actually running.

Found a supplier of new ones with gaskets etc for £130 ea for my 07MY. Is there anything I should be looking for when ordering these vaives.

Cheers

Hi Garry, I went for genuine LR parts from Nick aka 'The Large One' at Yeovil LR Bow down , there is a good guide on how to do this job, by Disco_Mikey http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic31658.html Bow down , I'd recommend (as he does) replacing the torx headed bolts that hold the valve to the cooler with the same hex headed ones(but NEW, of course) that hold the upper pipes to the valves,it does make refitting a little easier. PS mine is an '06, so valves are different p/no's and more expensive Big Cry , discounted to £155 each + gaskets, bolts, p&p. BTW Nick can post to Oz I believe, as yours is not affecting performance at the moment, you could leave it a while I suppose. Thanks for all that information - followed the posts on doing the job but with piggy fingers and my luck I know all is not going to go well. I am tempted to leave then as is but the orange light on the dash annoys me. Interesting that the fault on shows on start and not when running.

Cheers

Didn't notice any excessive smoke with mine, it just wouldn't accelerate away even on 3/4 throttle, then after what seemed an eternity Shocked it would take off like a scalded cat. Have you checked the intercooler hoses for splits / delamination:?: RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

Textars symptoms is what I had for a little while - now just drives normally - I guess if the EGRs are closed no exhaust gets into the engine so it drives normally (like mine is now) however if locked open then gases are going into the engine all the time and it runs like a dog.
