Anyone Considered A D4 As Opposed To A Sport ???

Good afternoon all, I was looking for a few opinions on the above. I am going to be changing car in the next month or two and was planning on coming back to the RRS having sold my HSE last year and missed it somewhat whilst having another stint in Mercedes. The slight doubts that have crept in have been as a result of us taking a look at a 4 month old Discovery 4 HSE when we went to the dealers to enquire about available deals on the new sport. The D4 was Fuji white, my preferred colour choice this time round and had everything but the kitchen sink in it, it really did impress me and SWMBO, we didn't take it out a drive or anything but had a good 45 minute conversation/demonstration with the salesman whilst sitting in the car and we left the dealers seriously debating which way to go. When we got home I played about with my desired specs etc on the configurator and they both came out to around similar money, when I used some of the internet brokers for quotes, I felt you got a slightly better discount on the Discovery which led me to think, is it a lesser car etc, are the residual values not as strong and all that jazz !!

Is there anyone on the site that has chosen one over the other before, came from one to the other or just would like to give their opinion I would really appreciate some views, I know they may be slightly biased opinions on this forum but they may help anyway.

Thanks folks Thumbs Up

I looked at the D4 before buying the RRS. As they weren't old enough to fall in to my second hand price range I didn't get one but I have to say that the D4 is a nice piece of kit. The amount of space in it is nice and with the seats all dropped (a nice easy task which shows some others how it should be done) you have a 4x4 van should you feel the need. I can see why they're so popular as family cars.

I could see myself getting a D4 next time just for that load space (for dogs etc. - we don't have kids). Although I think I could be swayed by a 4.4TDV8 FFRR...

Won't have to worry about that decision for a while yet though, hopefully. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Laughing @ RRSboy

I had a D4 as a courtecy car while my RRS was having new front lower wishbones... Whistle

Anyway... I was slightly dissapointed... which was dissapointing because I wanted to love it (nearly bought one after selling my D3, but loved the look of the Sport so went with my heart.)

It's a nice drive don't get me wrong...but it isn't as involving as the sport (and mine is the old one).. and the vertical dash feels eons away from you..which I'd also didn't like...

The space is good mind u RRS gone

i torn between a D4 and all its space for me, the wife and the kids and all the baggage (toys/bikes) that comes with them each time we go away or the Looks of the RRS also torn between waiting for the newer FL2, but a new one of those is decent RRS/D4 2nd hand territory

lol rrsboy Laughing , seriously though , I was worried this may be the general feeling Whistle Every time I pass a D4 out and about just now i'm taking a look to see who's driving it to see if there within my age group Mr. Green

I can see the practicality of the D4, clearly it could be more useful than a sport given the space and the seven seat option when and if required, in Fuji white with privacy glass and a few nice touches it would be a lovely car but on the other hand I think that a well spec'd sport in the same colour with the same nice touches would be a stunning car, I just don't want to spend the wrong side of 50k on one and regret not getting the other, think I will have to press the dealer for a lengthy test drive in both Smile

Cheers for the input so far folks Thumbs Up

I did till i realised that by the time i spec'd it to the same level as a RRS it was practically the same price Laughing

New D4 does look nice but compared to the 10MY RRS i wouldn't give it a look in.
