Manifold Absolute Pressure or Barometric Pressure Circuit high input. - Mine is a V8 SC engine. She starts up and goes off immediately except I depress accelerator pedal then she starts up, revs a bit and is stable. Drives quite okay though slow in picking up speed at times except I down shift gear using the tip-tronic mode (sport gear).

Any suggestions or advice from anybody is welcome. I'm counting on you good guys, thanks!

Probable causes would be..

* MAP sensor return circuit: high resistance
* MAP sensor sense circuit: short circuit to power
* MAP sensor failure

I suppose you have a diagnostic tool to have mentioned P010800 fault code. There should be a guided diagnostic routine for this code on the approved diagnostic system. Malaysia Boleh!

I'm using a small palm size code reader. Do you happen to know where the MAP sensor is located? Perhaps I should take a look at it and it's wiring. Thanks!

Above thread (and its links) was only really meant for diesel drinkers, never considered v8s. Problem with the TDV6s is the crud recirculated by the EGRs, which AFAIK the petrol engined car's don't have. Worth a look anyway but no idea where the MAP sensor is on a SC engine.

I pointed him there just so that he has an idea where the MAP sensor is.

Anyway don, it is item 9 in this..

Hello everyone! I just solved the problem and thought to share my experience with you guys as a point of reference for the future.

I knew there was nothing wrong with my MAP sensor. I removed the air manifold completely and inspected its surface. I found that there wasn't a good sealing effect between the air manifold and engine block surface, thus the engine wasn't getting full air charge for combustion as some of the air was pushing out through the sealing shim (gasket). This is evident in the fact that I saw residual signs of dried fuel over the spot where the gasket is supposed to be sitting tight to create a sealing effect on the surface.

Now, the P0108 came up because the shortfall in air charge caused it to look like the MAP sensor was faulty where in the real sense, it wasn't sensing the usual air pressure meant for the entire air inlet compartment.

SOLUTION:

For logistic reasons, I was unable to get a new gasket to replace and so I just wiped all the surfaces clean and then applied a thin layer of gasket maker(Silicon) around the air inlet ports and merged them back together again. Tightened up everything and started the engine. I erased the fault and it's sorted. She now starts fine and stays running unlike it was doing before I worked on her.

yes, MikeS! Please excuse my misrepresentation, I am a heavy duty Diesel mechanic. I was supposed to say "Inlet manifold" in the case of a gasoline engine.

Reason I asked is I have a persistant vacuum / running rich issue on one bank with my 4.4 and I'm trying different things at the moment, EGR valve is next as it operates on the bank in question. The inlet manifold is also on the list, so I'll have a look at that next time. Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.
