Full Steering Lock

Hi, not sure if anyone else has experienced this problem,

I've notice when reversing or pulling away and I apply full steering lock I hear a terrible noise coming from the front somewhere ...

Is this normal ??

Sorry couldn't resist it.

Depends how terrible it is, I had similar and it was something (sorry can't remember what, not very helpful) on the steering/suspension that needed greasing.

Mine wasn't completely on Full Lock though, only half. It's normal to hear a slight bump noise when you hit full lock, but not grinding.

SM if the RRS is in access mode then yes it's normal. If it's normal height you might have a problem. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

As VA says, and I omitted.

The noise I referred to was at normal height.

You need a bit of grease on the bump stops, lots of info on the D3 site with photos if you do a search.

thanks guys ... no it wasn't the lampost !!

come to think of it, its always as I'm pulling off and probably in access mode. I'll try it later when at normal height, hopefully thats the problem.

On full lock there is a cast bump stop that the steering hits, if there is no grease on it you get a grinding noise as metal is on metal.
Might not be be the fault, but heard about a lot on the pikey wagons.

Had the issue ELD70 describes before, and only a couple of months and 2k milesafter being serviced.

Obviously wasn't serviced correctly, greasing etc is a service task, raised that with Service Dept. Their answer was re greasing can be required at any time. , they hadn't greased it, and would rather state that the RRS service tasks may need doing every couple of months instead of 12 months.

Thanks for the extra info - I'm really struggling to visualise this - bump stops on earler vehicles would just be a touch point with an adjustable bolt and so wouldn't create a grinding noise. Anyone got a photo?

as I thought, it was in access mode. When reversing off my drive and steering the car it hasn't reached normal height, .... so problem solved ... thanks for the advice!
