never heard the term craphat before....can you explain please and what is a private military contractor....

planes do have keys, most small general aviation aircraft have keys to turn on the magnetos, this is a safety measure to stop u getting your head taken off if you try and turn the prop.

As to Navy ships, all the ones Ive been on had a whole series of keys..for loads of different systems, this is for safety reasons ie men working on propshafts or radar systems to stop them turning etc. The lynx helicopter I flew had a key for the armament system as did the Nuclear depth bomb. The smaller Navy ships I was on had keys, the larger ones......havent a bloody clue.

Yes, but only small piston ones, turboprop and jet have keys only for the doors. '08 RRS TDV8

As an ex RN weaponeer I have heard of Crabfats for our civvies in uniform service - you know the junior one? No traditions just bad habits!!! Never heard Crphats - is it Percy Pongoe term?

Anyways - keys in pusser's ships? Seem to remember lots of keys and signatures and interlock keys. Certain there were main engine interlock keys held in keyboards for issue.

Remember the keys officer deciding the key ring tabs were by their sell by date so he removed the olds ones and then turned to the new ones and then realised he had removed them all - not just one by one. 300 keys in doors etc later Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!

Just seen this post, Alicat is right, the ship I command has the 12 Cylinder version of that engine......... just a little more torque than a TDv8 motor! Mind you we still only get 0-30mph (not knots!) in 7200secs....... which is no contest even for the slowest car in the world, it would beat us hands down! BUT you try stopping 115,000 tonnes doing 30mph.... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Couldnt resist Higher Physics!!
Kinetic energy at 30mph for each is:

Tims canteen boat = 13.46 GJ
RRS = 224.45kJ

Approx 60, 000:1 times more energy!!

Respect Tim!! Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!
