United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
any SL owners..

I am looking to get my wife a Mercedes SL for Christmas and wanted to know what people thought of them. I was looking at an AMG55 but really engine size is not important so I would go for anything form a 350-AMG55 which is better and what is general build quality like. Finally is there anything I should look out for...

Many thanks
Ronnie

ps. are there any SL forums that I could check out

She wants the AMG55 either that or a 911. but she prefers the convertable hard top compared to 4 seats. I have been looking at a few and really like them I have an R129 300SL and love it to bits. have you had any problems and what it the build quality like any corrosion issues?

One of the Best build cars i'v ever been in/had

Never really had any big prob's just the odd recall from Merc for updates and that

The roof on my one stopped working (lack of use i was told Big Cry Big Cry ) Cost me £350 to get a fix (not from Merc) but if the pump goe's then i'm looking at £1200 to have that replaced.

Merc did say they all put in a call to Merc UK as it shouldn't go but it will cost me just to find that info out when i can just go to a specialist and get them to do the work.

Which is good as they have worked on both the SL and 760 Thumbs Up RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

Having been in Jay's 55 I can tell you it's a monster.... that said, I wouldn't have said it's much of a daily driver as fuel costs will be mental. A mate of mine who's a long term Porsche fan bought a 350 recently and is very pleased with it - looks good, works well but doesn't require you to take out shares in BP Wink

As a day to day car, they are fine. Just remember you have a nuclear weapon under your right foot Shocked If you are looking for a more relaxing drive with less power, I would opt for the 500......for me though it removed the animal instinct that the 55 possesses.

In all honesty, yes they are slightly juicy, but I still get better on the SL than I do on the S/C RRS. Comfort is amazing (the seats a RRS should have), everything does what it is supposed to do and overall, I think, its a great all rounder........and as a bonus, you can blast the majority of the fodder off the road or at the lights.
