maybe cars should go down the route used by motorcycles... ie. 17-18 = under 1000cc / 18-21 = under 2000cc / over 21 = unrestricted. Was thinking baout using BHP, but CC size would be easier to administer... RRS First Edition S/C, Vesuvius Orange, Rear Entertainment, Alpine TUE-T200DV, Stormer Alloys. (+ 19" MTR's for playing in the snow!)

Hmm, very sad. I wouldn't be responsible for my actions if something like that happened to either of my two.

Seriously though, how does one even live with the guilt of hurting a child even close to that bad? Let alone have parents willing to pay ALOT on legal fees trying to get him off it.

End of the day, it was a lapse of judgement because he wasnt experienced, and im sure although it was a stupid thing to do he wouldnt have intended it to happen, just didnt have the driving experience to think about what COULD happen. Admitting guilt and like the other guys said, parents paying the family as oposed to denying it in court would have made the whole situation better. When your worth that much though i can see a lawyer asking for ALOT of money to try to get you off it, and advising him not to plead ect..

What he did doesnt do justice for younger drivers. Most young lads are branded as boy racers and therefore sky high premiums etc etc.
What he did was wrong and I hope for the rest of his life he has that guilt hanging over him like a ton of bricks. He deserves all he gets.

So we all speed from time to time...I do. But as someone said going through areas where there might be kids around or in slow zones I know I keep an eye on my speed.
I dont think though that having a small CC car just because your young should be the way forward. End of the day you might have a 1.4 VW golf for example and you can cause more damage than say I would in my 525 Touring.
My opinion is that people I know that have tried to prove something to me because they have a smaller engine...take more risks. I know what I can overtake and what I cant, I know where I can overtake and where I cant.
I know im 19 going on 40 and perhaps having a father who was a copper helped. I like putting my foot down, I love the sound of the engine, I love the feeling of going fast. But I know where I can and cant.
I dont think that just because your young you should be branded a boy racer, its all about awareness.
I know I'm really attatched to my car. Its been in the family since new and its a part of our family, someone else like that guy may think a car is a car and not really care about it.

Watching one of the many fly on the wall Police programs last night

a new driver, 18 years old or thereabouts, went flying round a corner and lost control and ended up into a wall.

Only had the car 1 day, past his test 1 week earlier

Said he had "one" pint after work, and was crying like a baby

Police took his breathtest and he failed at 75mg (twice the legal limit), then went on blubbing how he knew his car was not roadworthy, with defective brakes, reverse lights and some other stuff

he then went on to confess to having 3 or 4 pints and crying how he could have killed somebody

The Police officer had no sypathy at all, and quite rightly

He knew what he was doing, he thought he knew better and thought it wouldn't happen to him

This time it did

So hopefully he learnt his lesson

Got this guy that coming in to the shop and he said to me the other day he's lost his license for 20 months for drink driving and speeding!

He was doing 50 in a 40 like 98% of other do on this road but he had been drinking the night before but was still over!  RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

Yep best to be safe then sorry i'v never drank and driven but the last 6 months or so if i go out to get something to eat i'll have 1 shandy with it but that's the most i'll have
