My GPS does not retain its memory. I have been told that the backup battery has failed, but Land Rover didn't say anything about where or what module it was in. I am fed up with it as it keeps going home to Belgium!!!

I think they are talking rubbish, as I don't believe there is any Backup Battery fitted to the GPS.

Maybe, maybe not. All I know is that if you put in a destination and start your journey, and happen to turn the ignition off at sometime the destination is lost. Home destination,when put in is lost if you turn off the ignition, in fact everything is lost. Turn on the ignition and it's reset back to Belgium,Grote market to be exact.

A little more information may help, like has it just delveloped the fault, have you just bought the car and it was already like it, recently updated the map or removed the battery etc.?

i'd check the cars battery...if ok try a disconnection reset..

The fault has only appeared a couple of months ago. One day ok,next day not ok??!?. Myself and my local Land Rover dealer have reset it back to Gloucester England, switch off and next time you switch it on, your back to Belgium,. Battery new last year,never been off since, still running original mapping software.go figure!

Probably a GPS antennae issue. It not knowing where it is defaults. There is no backup battery in the IAM, only feed from the car battery. Have you had any work done, even if you believe it to be unrelated? Any very heavy rain? 2012 5.0 SC AB

I don't know about the antenna, because 1 minute after I turn on the ignition, it goes from Belgium to where I am, but if I go to put in a destination, I have to change the country from Belgium to Great Britain,then all is ok till I turn it off again,then bingo it's back to Belgium again!!!When it's switched on it will find me no trouble,when programmed,no trouble,finds where I want to go and gets me there no problem. It just won't let go of Belgium!!!

P.S. my antenna is in the side windows I have no external shark fin

It is usually the antennae that has failed.

CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: A customer may express a concern that the navigation system reverts to a default location for their region. There are 2 failure modes, either intermittent or permanent as described below.
• Intermittent

1. After starting the vehicle, the voice notification "Welcome to the [country name]" is played.
2. On entering the Navigation after start-up, the vehicle icon shows itself in the region default, for example Belgium. Once GPS signal is acquired the vehicle icon jumps back to the actual location and the voice notification "Welcome to the [country name]" is played.
3. All other features of the Navigation system work normally.
• Permanent

This only exists in Integrated Audio Module (IAM) MCM-E level units. To find out what hardware is fitted to the vehicle select the "Part Information" icon on the Vehicle Statement Of Health (VSOH) on SDD.

2. On entering the Navigation after start-up, the vehicle icon shows itself in the region default, for example Belgium. Once GPS signal is acquired the vehicle icon jumps back to the actual location and the voice notification "Welcome to the [country name]" is played.
In addition
After starting the vehicle:
-Previous Destination list is unavailable (all items are deleted, button is greyed out).
-In EU, Destination entry by Postcode is unavailable (button is greyed out) .
-Search area changes to region default, example Belgium.
-Current route is removed (deleted) in next ignition cycle.
This version has been created to update the Parts section.
Cause: A software issue or hard fault with the IAM.
Suggested Customer Concern Code - A59.
noteNOTE: You must carry out the instruction to download the latest software first, under no circumstance must a module be ordered or replaced until it has been confirmed that the software update has not resolved the issue and all of the symptoms for module replacement are confirmed.

Action: Should a customer express concern, follow the Diagnostic Procedure below.
Intermittent - Download new software to the IAM.
Permanent - Replace the IAM.

Intermittent Fault.

1cautionCAUTION: This procedure requires DVD143.03 and Calibration File 219 loaded or later.

Connect the JLR approved battery support unit.

2Connect the JLR approved diagnostic tool to the vehicle and begin a new diagnostic session, by reading the VIN for the current vehicle and initiating the data collect sequence.

3Follow the prompts.

4Where no internet access is available.

1. Select the Diagnosis Session Type.

2. Select the Symptoms tab and enter any of the following Symptom(s).

• Electrical - Information and entertainment system - Navigation system.

3. Select the Recommendations tab.

4. Configure existing module - Audio front control module.

5When all tasks are complete, exit the current session by selecting the Session tab and then selecting the Close Session option.

6Disconnect the JLR approved diagnostic tool and battery support unit.

Permanent fault - IAM MCM-E units only

7Replace the Integrated Audio Module (see TOPIx Workshop Manual, section 415-00). 2012 5.0 SC AB

According to the wiring diagrams and workshop manual, both the RRS and LR4 have the GPS in the shark fin. The rear 1/4 windows have 3 antennas per side. 2 for Tv, 2 for DAB and 2 for AM/FM.

So any GPS in the window is aftermarket. 2012 5.0 SC AB

I think even the RRS2 antenna is roof mounted in the UK market, although there is some aerial/antenna fitted in the rear spoiler for something.
