Also despite him having a private jet, butlers, small islands etc he still sells parts from his RRS for extra cash

Ah! Glad you brought this up Tim.
I thought it was just me as well. It's an awfull design.
Being a high milage user I frequently check mine.
When new it was impossible to know the oil level.
The beads seem to collect oil as they come up the tube.
I was so concerned at the start I actually asked the dealer to confirm the level (felt a bit silly)
Now there is 12k under its belt and - as you say - the oil is black, its a wee bit easier.
I'm told by a local expert (a real one) you need to look at the oil between the beads to get a level.
Still difficult thought.
On the positive side it hasn't used much oil - I think - since new.
I have not needed to top it up.

Just got my car back from the dealers and having changed the oil, I thought I would check the level. It would appear that the bolt holding the top part of the dipstick tube has been undone and not done back up again. It sits in a rubber damping bush and appears to screw into the side of the acoustic shield. However mine doesn't appear to want to screw back in.

Anyone had similar problems - it feels like the bolt is too short to catch the captive nut/tapping.

OK now taken a couple of photos and checked (as far as getting a little finger in the hole!) and there doesn't appear to be a captive nut or anything threaded to tighten the bolt into. Anyone got an idea how this is supposed to tighten?

Had the self same thing on my TDV8 noticed it when I checked the oil after its first 600 miles, word of warning if not sorted asap, the tube will lift out from the block and you will start to smell oil fumes around the front of the car Shocked BTW I did try to sort it myself but it requires the correct bush and nut assembly. My quick fix was a couple of cable ties Thumbs Up
Then a trip to the dealer. D4 3.0 HSE with all the toys.
Departed RRS TDV8 HSE C/W with Full Arden body kit.
I never drive faster than I can see!

Thanks for the warning.

I've been doing a little more research and wondered if it's actually one of these that effectively work like a rivet
