United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

Service history isn't perfect. The third and last services were late, the last one quite late. That's an alarm bell right there. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

At that sort of mileage, I would budget to replace the turbos sometime soon if they've not already been done.

They seem to be a thing that goes somewhere around there.

Seems to depend on how it's been driven. Allowed to warm up before being asked to rev and then being allowed to cool for a minute at idle before turning off is a recipe for longer turbo life it seems.

The turbos aren't cooled other than by air flow through the engine bay. Oil cools the shaft bearings but that's it. If the turbos are hot and then switched off, the oil will carbonise over time causing oil seal failure. Allowing it to idle lets the turbo spool down and the bearings to cool a bit so the oil doesn't carbonise. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

No, but there are a few expensive bills at 100k that need doing (If you want it to stand a chance of doing another 100k).

Ahhh, same as most turbo engines then. Driving off boost for the last half mile or so before reaching your destination does the job too (on cars I`ve had previously).

Ok, cheers. It would take me 20 years to do 100k...I`ll probably be dead by then Laughing

Im hoping that is the case Smile There have been a few posts talking about the turbo oil return being pumped which causes the return to clog, but probably its just hard driving, being turned off cold and in a lot of cases, short trips and school runs.

Nevertheless, I would expect to do turbos between 90 and 120k based on the research I did before I bought mine, so make sure you have got the budget for it. I would probably talk to your local specialist and see what they say too.

I still have no regrets buying mine Smile

Nice one, thanks for that. Tell me, what do you like about it? I`m not even 100% sure I`ll like owning one Laughing Completely different to what I`m used to. Laughing

I love how it drives, its an extremely relaxed cruiser, great for trickling along in a 50 limit or if I'm not in a rush, yet if you open it up it makes very rapid progress. The acceleration is remarkable for something of its size, and it just wants to go and go. Its very good cross country on A-roads, I took it from Pontralis down to Monmouth in a bit of a rush, don't think I was any slower down there than I would have been in a car.

It helps that I love the look of the thing, like the interior and have enjoyed a bit of green laning in it Smile

With mixed driving, Im getting an average of about 23mpg, which is the same as I got out of my last audi, so I really cant complain. Ive come to this from a variety of quick audi and bmws, and my daily over the summer is a mustang GT, so its very different to my previous cars, I was half expecting to not like it and decide to sell it, but I absolutely love it.

With regards to buying one, be careful, there are a lot of dogs out there, my local independant said that it wasn't unusual for someone to buy a rough one and have a £1500 bill the first time they took it in for a service.

I love the looks of them too...inside and out. Mpg isn`t an issue as I`m used to low 20`s anyway Thumbs Up

Yeah I`m looking carefully...probably wouldn`t pull the trigger on one before running it past you guys Wink

I`ve actually come across a site called Swapz...few on there, might be the way to go, save the hassle of selling mine.

I think I`m actively looking for one now as I`m 50 in a couple of weeks and feel like a bit of comfort and luxury for my old bones Laughing

Ok, found a couple more for some expert opinions Thumbs Up

First one is probably my second choice of colour but it has the interior I prefer..

Second one...

They seem to have some nice high end motors......

Lastly a lower mileage one...

Cymruambyth,
I've been following your posts with interest for some time and as you said you are nearing 50 and feel like a bit of comfort and luxury. Why are you looking on eBay and other sites when there is "always" a higher risk than buying from a main LR dealership. Now some people will say that dealerships are often known as stealerships BUT buy from these and you always have the warranty back up to "save" you. Maybe you are trying to save money, yes, dealerships are higher priced but why risk buying on auction and other sites, especially with the car being your first.
This is just an observation and personal opinion and I truly hope you purchase one of these fine cars, V8 all the way would be my preference as well.
Good luck Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
