United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black
Week Old Sport 2014 - STOLEN

I had my brand new Range Rover Sport stolen from outside the house this morning in West London.

I'm amazed how easy it was for them to steal it.

I have attached a pic but the specs are as follows -

HSE V6
Causeway Grey
22" 5 Split Spoke - Style 6
Privacy Glass
Morzine Headlining
Meridian Surround Sound Audio

If anyone has any information or sees a vehicle matching this description in an unusual situation I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you.

Really sorry to hear this, you must be gutted. Mr. Green
Arn't JLR sending out warnings to customers of these vehicles going missing on a daily basis and advising customers especially in London to check that their vehicle is locked after pressing the remote to lock their vehicle? I guess not Shocked They wouldn't want it to effect sales now would they...... Question Whistle
No doubt it will be booked onto a container awaiting shipment to foreign shores. Crying or Very sad

Thanks for the responses guys...

malcolmw - yes we are talking key cloning

Ady 555 - indeed I received no advice from JLR or more disappointedly from dealership about precautions on key cloning before, during (i.e. once the order had been made) or upon delivery. What to look out for or how it can be prevented. It would have been a fantastic value add by the dealership just to mention when I took delivery last week that if the alarm is activated and you cant de-activate using the key that the signal is probably being blocked and cloned so take some EMERGENCY action. How good would that have been...just to inform a 'valued customer' that there are techniques to watch out for to prevent theft. Its a 2min conversation!! NOTHING.

andman - the thieves must have been watching the house. When I turned off my downstairs living room lights which face the road they went into action. They activated the alarm. I went out side to use the key to turn off the alarm it didnt work. I had to get inside and start the engine to turn off the alarm. I went back inside and read the manual about deadlocking etc etc. I went back to the car and checked the windows (as it mentioned in the manual air pressure changes...its was a blustery night Hurricaine Bertha) and got out and I'm fairly sure locked the car again. This morning it was gone.

As viper said...

Wouldn't it be a nice gesture and good PR if LR did fast track customers with stolen vehicles...

Although with thefts as bad as they are ... new orders would probably take well over a year to deliver Twisted Evil

It's right royal pain in the a.... but next time you may have to consider a good steering lock...

Very sorry to hear this. Did the car have a tracking device fitted?

It does seem some form of physical security is required, possibly multiple tracking devices; the idea that the key data can be downloaded through the OBD port is ridiculous; it should be locked up tight so that even if they break into the car, they cannot start the engine. That would mean that replacement keys could only be supplied from a central secure location to the supplying dealer and then on to the customer.

At least part of the issue will be remote unlocking, keyless entry and keyless start. There should be options to disable them, less convenience but greater security.

Off my soap box, really sorry for you. Mark

Gutted for you mate Sad

Sadly this is very common on all cars that don't use a traditional key. All the manufacturers need to buck their ideas up and get it sorted sharpish.

I am sorry to hear this news. Living in London I am now a bit concerned is there any preventative measure that I need to be aware of so potentially stop this happening to me? Why wife also has a an evoque so I guess the issue effects that vehicle too.

Physical security is your first defence - a solid steering wheel lock.

What you can also do is to get a car electrician to disconnect the data lines of the car's OBD socket so that when they plug in their cloning device, it's dead. You have a secret switch to reconnect it for dealer use - I've previously used a magnetically operated switch to that placing a magnet in the right position does it.

Off course, both of these are defeatable by working long and hard enough but the thieves then risk detection and should think it's not worthwhile. Mark
