Low Coolant Level

My 05 S/C show constant low coolant level. The level in the expansion tank is correct, and the LR guys reackon its a faulty sensor in the tank which needs a whole tank replacement. Anyone had anything similar?

If the tank is actually full, then it sounds like the dealer has it right. I don't remember that ever being reported on here but that's not to say such a thing wouldn't happen Very Happy

I had this - the float in the tank is absorbing water and sinks and sets off the low coolant warning. This is a warranty job and has happened to many. RRS 2.7 TDV6 HSE Zambezi silver,Alpaca.

There is actually a TSB issued for this (see the NA version below, the one in Europe may or may not be different.) Problem is, for a while dealers in the US were replacing faulty expansion tanks with more faulty tanks! Crying or Very sad There must have been a big batch of them around. Make sure your dealer is aware of the TSB, as you can see there is a specific manufacture date or code on the "good" tanks they need to check before installing. I am sure they are aware of that by now, but this is Land Rover and you never know...

Quote:
TSB# LS303-006

SECTION: 303-03
"Low Coolant Level" Message or Warning Lamp Illuminated
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Range Rover Sport (LS) VIN: 6A900129 to 6A929342
CONDITION SUMMARY:
"LOW COOLANT LEVEL" MESSAGE OR WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED
Situation: A customer may report that the "Low Coolant" amber warning lamp is illuminated or a "Low Coolant Level" message is displayed in the Message Center when the engine coolant expansion tank volume is within recommended levels.
The coolant level float in the expansion tank can absorb coolant causing the float to sink. The warning lamp and message will display when the float sinks below the low level sensor trigger point.
Action: Should a customer express a concern related to the above condition, within the specified VIN range, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin.
PARTS:
NOTE: The current expansion tank part PCF500015 may be used only if the sticker on the side of the part has a date of 31-10-05 (DD-MM-YY) or later. A newer part PCF500090 may be used when available.
PCF500015..............Coolant expansion tank (dated 31-10-05 or later) Qty 1
PCF500090..............Coolant expansion tank Qty 1

I have this right now - been doing it infrequently for a while and mentioned it last week during service, apparently the bottle material cracks somewhere allowing the sensor to become saturated - fix is new bottle. They had to order one and they are on backorder.... under warranty...

Yep, had this after the dealer fitted the FBH which required draining the coolant down. I thought they hadn't fully refilled the reservoir and complained that they had had the car for 3 days and should have run it enough to find out if there were air locks. Turned out to be the sensor was faulty too. A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Welcome Baxter!

Don't worry, there are very few problems that are "one offs", so if you do get a prob, just check out a few of the forums and you will more than likely find a solution! RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof
