Potential new owner - lots of toys EXCEPT towbar

Hi,

Having just bought my wife a 2nd hand Evoque, my Disco 4 feels a little (OK a lot) old fashioned by comparison. I've found a RRS which I am very tempted by which is pretty heavily specced:

2014 4.4 V8D Autobiography Dynamic
7-seater
Heated and Cooled Massage Seats
Head Up Display
Deployable side steps
1700W Meridian
RSE
Remote Park Heater

I think all of those were options above the AB, I can't think of anything desirable that's missing EXCEPT a towbar.

As it's fully loaded, I'm tempted to splurge on the electrically deployable one rather than a detachable or fixed one. Can anyone CONFIRM it can be retrofitted, it would appear so from a search and this link: http://accessories-instructions.landrover....0722381316

For those who have retrofitted the deployable bar at less than the shocking £3k+, did you manage to find 2nd hand parts or did you go non-LR aftermarket?

Any other suggestions of desirable features, please say. My only other concern is that it's not ULEZ compliant (not an issue in Dorset... YET).

Cheers,

Ian A.

Cruise Control is pretty handy on the motorway and dual carriage ways!

With the towbar the lecy one looks handy be worth looking on http://new.lrcat.com/ and working out what bits you might need, I'm sure most of the parts will be available from a crashed one and as you have 7 seater model I'm guessing maybe the wiring loom is maybe already there?

Its a shame they didnt carry on the maunal fit towbar like the L320 as that was quite hand on the odd occasion.

There are lots of other toys that are useable but again personal preference blindspot monitoring is also quite handy with all the loons on the motorways! too and bikes

AC seats are pretty good too not amazing but they work enough!

You can fit a wireless charger into the car your self if you dont mind taking some of the car apart (its pretty easy) maybe adding in carplay (ill let you know after ive done it hopefully this weekend)

Id be interested to know how you get on with the towbar retrofit though. If a jobs worth doing, get a someone who knows what they are doing to do it!

Thanks, I have tried Search but maybe my Search skills are a little lacking. I can see this thread on retrofitting the deployable towbar but no confirmation of what parts are required, CCF coding or cost: https://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic55915.html?highlight=towbar

I might have to compromise and get a detachable towbar (it's just for launching a small boat) but I'm interested in the deployable retrofit if it can be done at less than £2k.

pjbracer1 - thanks for the suggestions, I think it has all of those (Adaptive CC, blindspot monitoring, etc.). Interested in the wireless charging project and Carplay (well Android Auto). I am reasonably handy at taking bits apart, although it's easier on the D4 as it's basically a big Meccano kit.

Thanks!

The instructions linked in the OP are for the 5-seat L494. Be worth finding out if the instructions and the fitting kit are the same for the 5+2 seater.

A quick look around suggests that the deployable bar is over a grand and a separate fitting kit is also required. Total price for the parts is over 1.5 grand. Add on LR's mark up and the cost of fitting time and I could see how a main dealer would get to £3k. Doubtless it could be fitted cheaper. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Ta, I reckon I'd have a go at fitting myself. Doesn't look too hard from reading the destruction manual.

I've got the local specialist on standby for parts supply and coding, is your price of 1.5k for new parts or ebay used?

I remember speaking to a second hand dealer about the tow bar on one and how easyit was to get fitted he didnt know for sure but he said the 5+2 seaters have all the wiring in place already as they fitted one for a customer.

I reckon the tow electrics might be there already which I think would be the tow prep pack which is just for the lights etc... power to the trailer but as for the deployment electrics not sure if they are part of that (i would guess not by default but probably parts of the same loom for the 2 extra rear pop up seats.

If the lectrics are there then it should in theory jus be a parts bolt on not sure if the car will need to know its their maybe via the GAP tool? There is a trailer hitching feature that the rear cam uses but not sure if this needs to be enabled or if its automatically enabled once a trailer is connected to the car?

Good luck and if you go for it, take lots of images and part numbers required for a write up. If a jobs worth doing, get a someone who knows what they are doing to do it!

Easy job as all towing socket wiring is in place behind the bumper already, you do need the inner boot wiring loom, switch and ecu, no need for coding as it's all just plug in and then once completed, run the calibration process and job jobbed.

Here's what I paid for all parts including the new bumper trim (part no. is for gloss black).

Easy enough to fit a deployable Towbar as all the holes are their to fit & wiring is their but you will need the other switch that goes to the right panel of the boot to operate the bar.20 minute job to remove bumper,,but first I would check you can fit to the 7 seater.

For reference:

I took ownership of my sv velar only in march this year and I had to add the deployable towbar to the car, I received no discount nor deal to have this work carried out and I was billed £2100 to have it done inc the convenient buttons in the boot and also the entertainment system updating so I can deploy it from the screen. I know its a lot of money just for a towbar but I really hate the sight of the things sticking out the back of great looking cars. Thumbs Up MY18 SCV8 Satin flux silver

Excellent, thanks all for your help, very useful! Removing the tow cover, I can see that it looks like the pre-wiring is in place, just need the bar, switches, ECU, cover and socket.

I shall start making enquiries. I don't see why you couldn't add it to the 7-seater - I was looking at the same age 7-seat AB which already had it fitted.

Hi,

Can I ask when you had this fitted? I can't quite make out the date but it looks like it was £2040 inc VAT? The local LR dealer are quoting me £2551 but only after I gave them this link: https://accessories.landrover.com/gb/en/ra...tiary-tabs

Before I gave them that, it was over £2600 plus painting the bumper valance!

I've priced up the bar itself and it's over £1800inc. VAT. Then you need the ECU and wiring, towbar wiring, button panel, bumper valance and a speaker bracket! Even with kits like this (£1900 excl. fitting and tow electrics), it seems a good deal to get the main dealer to fit it: https://www.lrparts.net/lrkit4942-range-ro...t0122.html

Cheers,

Ian.

Hi Ian

The cost I detailed were supply only as I fitted myself, the details of the required parts are: -

LVPLWT0111 - Tow Bracket £1350.48
LVPLWB0138 - Tow Hood (diffuser) £86.47
LVPLWT0123 - Switch £116.21
LVPLWT0217 - Loom/ECU £147.28

All above + VAT and include 12.5% discount so total cost was £2040.53 all in and were purchased 03/03/21.

No idea why you need a speaker cover? When the towbar is moving from stowed to deployed and vice versa the ecu emits a beeping from itself internally. The towbar switch goes into the offside 1/4 trim, basically you cut a piece out of the existing trim and clip the bezel and switch into place. The valance diffuser come pre-painted in either black or silver, I assume as they have quoted to paint that you want a non-standard colour?

Hope this helps.

Mike
