Occasionally I get what seems a very hot or burning rubber smell from under the bonnet. Same as a hot flat tyre smell.
The car is only just one year old. Has anyone else noticed this?
Suggestions welcome.

I had this exact same smell on my 5.0 SC when i put my foot down hard and made it roar into action, I assumed it was just the way it was so never bought it to the attention of the dealer, do you have it all the time or when booting it? MY18 SCV8 Satin flux silver

I first noticed it last winter. Usually when very cold (I'm in Scotland) and calm or little wind. I assumed it was just the 'new' smell you often get. Never noticed it all summer. It seems to have come back. Doesn't seam to matter if i'm in town or out on a long run. I haven't asked the dealer yet.

not sure i can shed any light on it chap but i would be interested to hear what the engineers say about it when you go in with it

My SC did the same after a bit of “use”

If it is a diesel, this is likely to be a DPF regeneration. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Totally agree with the above...if it’s a diesel it will definately be the DPF regenerating.. the exhaust will also sound slightly deeper at the same time..

It’s an incredibly complex process where the exhaust is redirected which causes the dpf to superheat which in turn burns out the soot and other debris clearing the dpf.

Thanks all. I was suspicious it was the diesel heater since it has gotten colder and I didn’t notice it during the summer.

If it is only noticeable in cold months a very good chance it is fuel burning heater, the smell is more noticeable especially as soon as the cold weather starts as it burns off the accumulated dust and whatnot that builds up over the warmer months. It is also more noticeable in still conditions when stationary as the breeze won’t blow the fumes away

Small update. Had a word with the dealer but they would only commit to inspecting it for an hour.
Had a good look under the bonnet myself and managed to talk the local tyre centre into putting it on the lift
and looking under. Couldn't see any scorched rubber at all. Naturally when it was on the lift there was no smell even although it was only 2 deg. It only cost the price of 4 new tyres. Well that's why I went in the first place
Guess I'll just need to accept it.
