Pre Heater.

Started the car this morning -3 degrees.
As I was running late and had forgot to pick up my phone and office keys i had to go back unto the house. When I came out I noticed plumes of what look like exhaust smoke coming from under the left hand side of the engine. Now either my car is breathing very heavily, or could this be the fabled engine pre heater at work.
I wonder if like the disco 3 boys that this could be enabled at some point so as on these cold mornings you could stoke the heaters before you get in the car to get it all nice and warm before you set off on your journey.
I would have orderd a pre heater if that was one of the options and it is on mornings like this that I think about finding some kind of remote cabin pre heater.
But then again with the ENGLISH weather we could all be out sunbathing this weekend. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

Look at BNs posts on the other side! It has long been a bone of contention, but the problem may be near resolution.

Pelyma
I have been watching BNs post all the way and spent some of this morning messing around under the bonnet of my colleagues D3 which has the settings menu. The sport has not got this option in the menu
I must admit on these cold mornings it would be nice to have it warmed before sitting in side. I could turn it on before walking the dog and it would be lovely and warm ready for the slog to work. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

Went out to car this morning. It was -6 and it was well frozen.

I started the car and pressed the seat heater and the 'Prog' button. Came out 5 minutes later to clean windows, clean mirrors, hot seats and a nice toasty car Very Happy

Tasmod, beware your car won't be insured if some @*&% nicks your pride and joy.

I'm in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours for a mile or so, the car is also boxed in and has to be shunted around to get it out.

Normally car is in garage but No1 son has his Subaru front in pieces in my garage Sad

Big Problem the RRS doesnt have the timer setting in the dash menu so you cant use the radio trick, the only option is to start the car

BN is working with them I believe. I presume the fix will work for RRS as well though as I don't think it will use the settings menu - but I could be talking a load of @*&% of course Laughing

Tasmod it sounds like you have a great place - fancy having another son and daughter in law Shocked

Well either SE's don't have the fuel burning heater or it wasn't cold enough here for it to cut in, it was only -9 this morning when I went out to to the car and on start-up there was no small exhaust plume from anywhere like I used to have on the Freelander and the TD6. Sad Sad
But at least the bum warmers work well - has anybody found out yet just how hot they get before the thermostat cuts the power supply, mine seem to get uncomfortably hot even on the low (1 red light) setting and I have to switch the driver's seat heater off manually to avoid burning my backside Laughing A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Staying - Epsom Green Defender 90 for playing off road

This preheating business is getting enormously confusing Rolling Eyes
Here's what my dealer tells me:
1) RRS HSE has a fuel heater (SE's dont);
2)the fuel heater serves two purposes - quick heating outside of regular channels (I assume this means without affecting performance in anyway) and pre-heating;
3)Conveniently though, my ordered car will not have it since LR dont offer it in parts of Europe Shocked (this is not the sunny Med I'm talking about here);
4)Dealer insists the lack of preheating is fixable through a software update and in any event is available elsewhere as standard.

Reading through posts here, I think he's having me on. Only one way to find out - does anyone with an RRS HSE TDV6 have preheating functionality available????

No me neither... I'm not sure it's even available on RRS, regardless of model. It would be great to be proved wrong Wink

Look on Disco 3 site lots of info there about the state of play, but I don't think LR will be fixing it for years yet, the best hope is that Webasto fix the problem, but this isn't as easy as it would seem.
