Dealer damaged car. Any advice?

I'd be grateful for some advice.

My range rover L494 was picked up yesterday by Harwoods Crawley for a service. It stayed overnight as needed a small item changing which wasn't in stock (apparently a temperature sensor was chewed through by an animal!?) . It was dropped back today while we were out.

I got a standard message from them yesterday afternoon saying in the vehicle inspection while in the workshop there was a one wheel with a mark. I called them to clarify and they said it was tiny but they point it out as part of their health check. I thought nothing of it as assumed it would have been there but too insignificant to spot - my alloys are in great condition.

Car returned today and key posted through letterbox. The alloy is trashed! The lack of brake dust should prove its fresh perhaps.

They didn't inspect the car or get me to sign anything when they picked it up regarding condition. Do I have any options? Clearly there is no proof either way (apart from my word that the wheels were unmarked). Any advice on what happens in these situations?

Phone the Dealer Principal and chat it over without losing your rag to begin with.
I usually photograph the car before leaving it with anyone.... Visitor from fullfatrr.com

I am the same as Dr Rob. I always do a walk around with the service manager / reception and take 4 pictures of my car when I drop it off for service after my wife's car was damaged during service. Because of this, it was repaired with no argument by BMW.

Is it normal for them to text you specifically about such a thing? It sounds like the actions of a guilty person trying to cover his back to me. It's hardly tiny either - whoever did that knew they'd done it even before they checked visually. I would certainly insist they replaced it and have nothing to do with any discussion about "my word over yours" - approach them with the 100% knowledge that it's their fault.

That's terrible. Shocked

I'd expect them to replace that alloy without any quibbles and at least offer a few free services for the audacity to return it to you in that condition. Harwoods are supposed to be a reputable group so interested to hear how they deal with this. MY16 SDV6 Autobiography

Have a look at this.
http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/let...t-a-garage

I recently went through something similiar when my Caravan was damaged whilst at the dealer for a service. Initially I sent a letter using the Which template but the dealer still refused to make good. I then put around 50 really bad reviews all over the internet, everywhere I possibly could, Google, Yell, Caravan Forums, Facebook etc etc. Within 24 hours I had the Dealer MD on the phone begging me to remove the reviews. I told him what he needed to do before I would do this. Within a week, the damage was repaired, so I removed everything I had placed online.

Whatever you decide to do, you MUST be factual, do not embellish in any way or you'll find yourself fighting a court battle.

Good luck

I had similar with a BMW I had in for service, whereby it came back with a scratch. I tried everything and they wouldn't budge, so I submitted a small claims court action for the cost, and won. Will never buy a car from them again, silly from their point of view really as they could have sorted for £250, in the end it cost them about £600. 2012 RRS SDV6

Are certain the damage was not already done? Shocked - it's very easy to damage an alloy and not notice it happened.
