Looking for 12v switched live

Guys, please excuse the newbie question. I want to install DRL's on my RRS and want them to come on independent of any other lights. Therefore I need a 12v power source that is only live when I switch on the engine. I am not brilliant with electrics, but I can splice a wire and join together. Any ideas where I should be looking around the front of my TDV8?

Thanks

The easiest and least intrusive way is simply to use a voltage sensitive relay like this: http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/925/category/149 Wink Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

New Zealand 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Santorini Black

I fitted some DRL lights to a 2009 pre facelift and actually found a switched live in the multi-plug that connects to the headlight unit. I honestly can't remember which wire it was I have a feeling it was Red and Black at the bottom of the plug, unfortunately I have now sold that car so can't go and have a look. They were Phillips Lights which I fitted and came with a Control Unit which when you switched the Sidelights on it Dimmed the DRL's.

Cheers

Plenty of ignition lives around (Another here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/displayima...amp;pos=39), but the OP was asking for an engine live. Wink

If it were me, I'd just stick with the ignition though. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

whatever you do don't piggy back off of the fuel pump fuse.

here's my fully working solution : http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/post441576.html#441576 Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

Australia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Bonatti Grey

I fitted DRL's to my 06 RRS and picked up the wiring at a connection leading to the headlights. Like COL said.
Here in Australia regs do not permit you to have them on with your headlights.
So the live wire was picked up from the Connector and the Off Relay switch ( should come with the lights) from the headlight wire (in the same connector). Some people have them turn off from the 'parkers' or sidelight circuit as we call them in Aust. BUT I think they are better left on with the 'Parkers' .
Hope this helps.
